Amprius Technologies, Inc.•Fremont, CA
•$130,000 - $165,000•Onsite

About The Position

Amprius Technologies, Inc. is a manufacturer of high-energy and high-power lithium-ion batteries, with its corporate headquarters, R&D lab, and manufacturing facilities in Fremont, California. The Battery Post-Sales Application Engineer works closely with technical leadership and customers on post-sales technical application development. The role focuses on troubleshooting battery-pack integration designs and coordinating third-party testing to bring battery solutions to market. It is intended for a technically minded engineer seeking a customer-facing, solution-oriented role beyond pure R&D. The engineer coordinates application-specific battery-pack sample testing across internal and external laboratories, supports pack architecture and manufacturability assessments, and assists with manufacturing partner onboarding. The role also involves pack failure analysis, certification and abuse-testing support, thermal-performance troubleshooting, and coordination of qualification schedules and customer feedback with internal R&D and Quality teams. The position is based in the Fremont office and requires travel of up to 25%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or ME degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Science, Chemical, Manufacturing, or Integration Engineering, or a related STEM field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in technical product management in the battery, electric vehicle, aerospace/astronautics, drone, or consumer electronics sectors.
  • Understanding of lithium-ion battery chemistry, charging profiles, and safety protocols.
  • Experience with battery pack design for manufacturability.
  • Hands-on experience with battery failure analysis and teardown at pack or cell level.
  • Ability to build required test setups and integrate system tools for metrology measurement.
  • Experience in battery management system design to ensure battery safety and prevent field misapplication.
  • Strong ability to interpret technical data and use Excel or similar tools for performance modeling.
  • Ability to write clear technical reports and communicate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
  • Strong attention to detail in tracking validation schedules and technical specifications.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of lithium-ion cell design, cell manufacturing, cell assembly, and cell electrochemical performance testing.
  • Experience with cycling test systems such as Arbin, Neware, or Chroma.
  • Hands-on experience building mechanical or electrical systems, including machining, mechanical manufacturing, sheet metal fabrication, and welding.
  • Experience in battery-pack reliability performance evaluation.
  • Experience in high-voltage battery systems.
  • Experience with system design supporting battery-pack certification, including UN38.3, IEC62133, RTCA DO-311A, or EASA certification.
  • Experience troubleshooting battery thermal performance and evaluating thermal-runaway risk.
  • Knowledge of battery-system design considerations for mitigating thermal-runaway risk.
  • Ability to quickly learn cell-to-pack integration and thermal management.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee battery-pack sample test plans for specific applications and track progress across internal and external laboratories to keep schedules on track.
  • Perform preliminary cell-to-pack architecture calculations, including voltage, capacity, and series/parallel configurations, and assess designs for manufacturability.
  • Visit pack manufacturers to document capabilities and support onboarding of new manufacturing partners.
  • Perform battery-pack teardown failure analysis to distinguish pack failures from cell failures.
  • Assist with gathering data for certification and cell- and pack-level abuse testing.
  • Lead certification-support projects and work with test houses and advisory boards to improve battery-pack design.
  • Troubleshoot battery thermal performance and support functional performance prediction and dysfunctional thermal-runaway evaluation.
  • Maintain and update cell-sample and pack-building qualification schedules, flagging potential delays to the account manager.
  • Document pack qualification feedback and cell-to-pack quality issues, and channel customer concerns to R&D and Quality teams for resolution.
  • Collaborate with partner companies and travel to external testing or manufacturing partners, industry events, conferences, and trade shows as needed.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage, with HMO and PPO medical plan options.
  • Employer-funded Health Reimbursement Account (HRA).
  • HSA-compatible medical plan and flexible spending account (FSA) options.
  • Pet health insurance for dogs and cats.
  • Traditional and Roth 401(k) plans.
  • Vacation leave beginning at three weeks of annual accrual.
  • 10 paid holidays.
  • Sick time off.
  • Cell phone reimbursement.
