This position operates machines that mix stock or poultry feed according to a formula and convey it to a packing machine or storage. The operator loads specified quantities of meal, mash, grain, and meat scrap into a machine hopper, or uses a control panel to transfer ingredients from separate bins to a batch-scale hopper until the specified weight of each ingredient is reached. The operator weighs additives such as minerals and vitamins and adds them to the hopper, then starts the mixing machine and the elevators and conveyors that transfer feed to storage tanks or packing-machine hoppers. The position may also tend machines that automatically weigh specified amounts of mash and grain before they are mixed with other ingredients; this work may be designated Feeder Operator, Automatic (grain-feed mills). The employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level is usually moderate. The role requires frequent lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds and a range of movement, vision, and sensory abilities. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
