Basketball Coaching Positions
About The Position
Avenues Athletics Department is seeking committed coaches to develop, plan, and implement its growing sports curriculum. Coaches will instruct student-athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success, while fostering integrity, pride, sportsmanship, self-discipline, goal setting, teamwork, and self-confidence. This role involves teaching fundamental skills, managing practice and game plans, handling administrative duties, and attending athletic and school meetings. Assistant coaches will support the head coach, contribute to practices, and gather statistical information.
Requirements
- Head coaches have 3+ years of basketball head coaching experience
- Assistant coaches have 1+ years of basketball coaching or related experience
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work well with student athletes, parents, faculty/staff and the athletics department
- Current First Aid/CPR certification, or ability to get training before the season commences
- Knowledge of the rules and regulations of the sport, with special consideration given to those having experience with the desired age category
- Enthusiasm, commitment, patience, and a passion for teaching the game are essential
- Ability to motivate and provide positive leadership to our student athletes by following our school and athletic mission
- Must be eligible to work in the United States
- Must be living in New York or surrounding area during the season
- Successful completion of careful reference and background checks

Responsibilities
- Breakdown and teach the fundamental skills for players at all levels
- Attend all scheduled games and practices
- Manage and coordinate practice and game plans
- Be responsible for handling all administrative duties related to their team
- Attend all necessary athletic and school meetings and events
- Support head coach in promoting the mission of the program
- Contribute to and/or run practice sessions
- Gather and record statistical information
