About The Position

Avenues Athletics Department is seeking committed coaches to develop, plan, and implement its growing sports curriculum. The role involves instructing student-athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training to achieve individual and team success, while fostering integrity, pride, sportsmanship, self-discipline, goal setting, teamwork, and self-confidence. This is a part-time, seasonal position averaging 5-10 hours per week. Varsity roles meet 4 times a week for 1.5 hours each, and Middle School roles meet 3 times a week for 1.5 hours each. Competitions are up to 1.5 hours, not including travel time. On race days, athletes leave between 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, and candidates should be available to travel with the team. The Varsity schedule includes meets 4x per week, with practices on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 4-5:30 pm, and Wednesdays from 2:45-4:15 pm. The team races in 1-2 meets per week, starting between 4-5 pm.

Requirements

  • Head coaches have 2+ years of track & field head coach experience
  • Assistant coaches have 1+ years of coaching or related experience
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work well with student athletes, parents, faculty/staff and the athletics department
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification, or ability to get training before the season commences
  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations of the sport, with special consideration given to those having experience with the desired age category
  • Enthusiasm, commitment, patience, and a passion for teaching the game are essential to this position
  • Ability to motivate and provide positive leadership to our student athletes by following our school and athletic mission
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Must be living in New York or surrounding area during the season
  • Successful completion of careful reference and background checks

Responsibilities

  • Breakdown and teach the fundamental skills for players at all levels
  • Attend all scheduled games and practices
  • Manage and coordinate practice and game plans
  • Be responsible for handling all administrative duties related to their team
  • Attend all necessary athletic and school meetings and events
  • Support head coach in promoting the mission of the program
  • Contribute to and/or run practice sessions
  • Gather and record statistical information
