About The Position

The Basic Security Fundamentals (BSF) Instructor III provides instruction for Basic Security Fundamentals (BSF) modules in accordance with CENSECFOR curriculum and training standards. The Basic Security Fundamentals (BSF) Instructor III delivers high‑risk and moderate‑risk training tasks, including classroom instruction, hands‑on practical exercises, performance‑based demonstrations, and remediation. This role requires completing Course Unique Instructor Training (CUIT) requirements for assigned BSF modules and maintaining certification throughout employment. The instructor will support training in non‑lethal weapons fundamentals, communication skills, basic security tactics, and related performance‑driven modules, ensuring the safety and appropriate supervision of students during all laboratory, field, and scenario‑based training. Responsibilities also include assisting with classroom preparation, test proctoring, student administration, and coordination of training equipment. The Basic Security Fundamentals (BSF) Instructor III recommends curriculum improvements and participates in course reviews when requested, while maintaining compliance with Navy high‑risk training safety protocols, instructor conduct standards, testing requirements, and academic policies. Ensuring required documentation, certifications, and training records are properly maintained within the Instructor Training Jacket (ITJ) is also a key duty. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Possess a CENSECFOR provided instructor qualification training and completed certification as a Non-Lethal Weapons – Basic Instructor (NLW BI).
  • No NCIC criminal record of conviction.
  • Certified federal, state, or municipal law enforcement officer with a minimum of 5 years operational patrol experience with a civilian law enforcement agency OR have been certified with a minimum of 5 years operational patrol experience with a military law enforcement agency; or have instructed military law enforcement or military security tactics within the previous two (2) years.
  • Ability to obtain access to Risk Management Information (RMI) system in accordance with COMNAVSAFECOM 5200.3 - Access to Navy Safety Command Information.
  • Knowledge of basic and advanced instructional techniques, classroom management, adult learning principles, and student motivation.
  • Understanding of Navy Security Forces terminology, military rank structure, course curriculum, and training environments.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding training tasks including self‑defense, tactical movements, and prolonged activity in standing, kneeling, and prone positions.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, appropriate for training delivery.
  • Knowledge of Navy non‑lethal weapons fundamentals and BSF coursework.
  • Ability to operate in a military environment with professionalism, discipline, and adherence to conduct standards.
