About The Position

Cascadia Tech Academy is seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Barber Instructor to guide and educate students in the art and science of barbering. The instructor will be responsible for developing lesson plans, teaching practical and theoretical skills, ensuring compliance with state licensing requirements, and preparing students for successful careers in the barbering industry.

Requirements

  • Possess a Washington State Career and Technical Education Teacher Certificate with an endorsement in Cosmetology (V120403) or meet qualifications to obtain one.
  • A requirement for certification includes a minimum of 6000 hours of work experience in barbering and/or cosmetology.
  • Must hold a valid Washington State Barber and/or Cosmetology Instructor License.
  • Current or recent (2 to 4 years) experience in barbering.
  • Strong knowledge of Washington State barbering laws, sanitation regulations, and industry standards.
  • Ability and willingness to develop and promote the Barbering program.
  • Current First Aid Card.

  • Demonstrated success or training in providing leadership and guidance to the student leadership requirements of the program preferred.
  • Evidence of teacher training or experience which reflects interactive student-centered instruction, using technology and real-world applications to enhance teaching and learning preferred.
  • Evidence of experience working with program advisory committee and community partners preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in maintaining a positive, productive learning climate in the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues preferred.
  • Evidence of satisfactory experience in curriculum development, classroom management, and organization for routine detail preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach the Barbering program in alignment with state approved course frameworks.
  • Teach students fundamental and advanced barbering techniques, including hair cutting, styling, shaving, and sanitation practices.
  • Stay updated on the latest barbering trends, techniques, and regulations.
  • Manage related CTE Dual Credit articulation agreements.
  • Work with the appropriate advisory committee(s); attend all meetings and implement advisory committee recommendations.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff to align program competencies and expectations with district approved program standards and state approved frameworks.
  • Be an advisor and provide opportunities for all students to participate in student leadership activities within the leadership component of the program.
  • May require hours outside the regular school day.
  • Teach and assess safety within the curricular program.
  • Motivate and instruct students of all ability levels with emphasis on providing for their individual learning styles.
  • Maintain a positive, productive learning climate in the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues.
  • Maintain open communication with parents, students, staff and administration.
  • Participate in the development of curriculum and incorporate technology into the instructional process.
  • Maintain program budget and participate in annual program planning.
  • Coordinate ordering and enforcing professional attire for industry standards.
  • Integrate business and community partnerships to enhance student learning.
  • Be flexible and cooperative in schedule changes and accommodating changes in facility use.
  • Follow Cascadia Tech’s calendar including first and last days of school, all holidays and breaks, Professional Days, Learning Improvement Days, if available, conference dates, half days, early releases, late starts, weather delays and cancellations, professional days, etc.
  • Use/learn computer technology i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, electronic grading and attendance, communication by e-mail, and ability to implement computer skills into daily classroom instruction.
  • Implement the requirements of IDEA, Section 504, and ADA in the education of students with disabilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
