About The Position

The Barback position at Chatham Bars Inn, a Forbes Five-Star resort, involves supporting the bar and food & beverage operations. This role is crucial for maintaining the high standards of service expected at a luxury resort located on the coast of Chatham, Massachusetts. The Barback will assist bartenders with stocking, cleaning, and preparing the bar area, ensuring a seamless experience for guests. Requirements

  • At least 18 years old.
  • Excellent people skills and outgoing personality.
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts and schedules, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to lift and carry at least 50lbs.
  • Ability to move up to 150 lbs., with wheeled assistance.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, lift, and bend for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to demonstrate competency as outlined in the training schedule.
  • Must be a service-minded individual with a positive attitude who truly enjoys helping others.
  • Must be quick on their feet and adept at handling stressful situations seamlessly.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must be able to handle criticism.
  • Ability to converse with guests and employees in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Maintains a current state alcohol serving permit.
  • Current TIPS Alcohol Certification or comparable alcohol service certification.
  • Prior Food & Beverage experience preferred.
  • High school diploma preferred.
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or any other combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Ability to obtain Food Service Sanitation certification.
  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
  • Bilingual/Spanish helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Stocking, cleaning, and delivering food to guests.
  • Prepare and clean designated bar areas.
  • Assist with the maintenance and cleaning of the restaurant area and equipment.
  • Provide the highest levels of service and professionalism.
  • Perform all duties and adhere to Chatham Bars Inn standards.
  • Greet all guests with enthusiasm and friendliness and maintain positive guest relations at all times.
  • Anticipate guest needs, respond promptly, and acknowledge all guests; resolve guest complaints and ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Answer guest questions about food, beverages, and facilities accurately and in a friendly manner.
  • Trash pickup and disposal at bar and bar service areas.
  • Complete tasks related to stocking, replenishing, cleaning, maintenance, and preparation of beverages under the guidance of the bartender.
  • Maintain and stock adequate supplies of bar items such as glasses, cups, napkins, drink supplies, condiments, etc.
  • Wash glasses and other serving equipment at bars.
  • Stock refrigerating units with wines, beer, replace beer kegs, etc.
  • Remove soiled wares from bar top and tables to dishwashing area.
  • Arrange bottles and glasses to make attractive displays.
  • Order or requisition liquors and supplies.
  • Communicate with food and beverage staff to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Maintain professional relationships with all co-workers.
  • Answer outlet phone using correct greeting and telephone etiquette.
  • Follow checklists and standard operating procedures.
  • Prepare work area for opening, mid-shift, or closing in accordance with company standards.
  • Complete side work during non-busy hours.
  • Maintain a professional appearance at all times.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of all food & beverage menu items, including liquor brands, beers, non-alcoholic selections available.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of and strictly abide by state liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated guests, and drunk driving.
  • Perform related tasks and functions as requested by manager.
