About The Position

Barbacks are responsible for stocking liquors, refilling garnishes, polishing glasses, stacking napkins, hauling kegs, bringing glassware back from the dishwasher, helping punch orders into the bar POS, and assisting customers with questions. They are often on a career path to become bartenders. This role requires maintaining a calm demeanor during high-volume periods, anticipating customer and store needs, and adhering to operational policies and procedures. The Barback ensures a consistent flow of services by assisting bartenders, maintaining cleanliness of bar tops and floors, removing used glassware, and clearing and wiping down tables in lounge areas. They are also responsible for receiving and stocking products according to specifications. The role involves constant communication and the ability to distinguish subtle differences in flavors and odors, as well as clear vision and understanding of safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Read and visually verify information in a variety of formats (e.g., small print).
  • Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines (e.g., to identify defects).
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds (with assistance if more).
  • Ability to move quickly turning from left to right or right to left.
  • Flexibility in the wrist to scoop, twist, push, pull, lift, and bend.
  • Ability to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
  • Ability to be mobile in walk-in refrigerator and freezer with temperatures ranging from 40° F to -10° F.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in food service industry preferred.
  • Well organized and detail oriented.
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in the role of a Barback.
  • Able to provide any work cards required for position.

Responsibilities

  • Clearing and wiping down tables in lounge areas.
  • Receiving and delivering product to the appropriate outlet and stocking according to specifications.
  • Communicating effectively, expressing or exchanging ideas through spoken word.
  • Distinguishing differences or similarities in intensity or quality of flavors and/or odors.
  • Maintaining clarity of vision at near and/or far distances.
  • Understanding and complying with all safety regulations and rules.
