About The Position

The banquet manager is responsible to oversee the operations of the banquet department for the Shooting Star Casino, Hotel & Event center. In all interactions, the position is responsible for providing STAR Experience to guests and fellow team members a first priority.

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree in business or related field is preferred; will consider a minimum of four years of related work experience (history) that demonstrates increased level of supervisory responsibility; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Minnesota driver’s license required with insurable driving record.
  • Must meet the requirements as prescribed by the Tribal-State compact for Gaming.
  • Ability to effectively manage all aspects of the department and staff.
  • Ability and skills to direct and delegate to supervisors on leading staff and effectively mentoring Team Members.
  • Ability to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to and skill in assigning and directing work.
  • Ability to appraise the work of others and provide constructive feedback.
  • Ability to reward and discipline Team Members and address complaints and perform problem-resolution process.
  • Knowledge of budgeting process and procedures.
  • Knowledge of creating a strategic plan and goals for the department.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or other Team Members of the organization.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting and invoice preparation; ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages, proportions.
  • Knowledge of sales, banquet and hotel departmental policies.
  • Ability to use office equipment, including a personal computer; familiarity with ordering and maintaining inventory.
  • Knowledge or ability to learn various computer programs used (Lawson, Entrée, Kronos, Microsoft programs including Outlook, Excel and Word).
  • Ability to frequently stand and walk for long periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the selection, training, development and performance of banquet staff to retain a motivated, professional workforce.
  • Ensures proper management of daily operations of the banquet department to enhance guest satisfaction.
  • Financially responsible to develop and monitor the financial process and departmental planning to promote smooth and consistent operations.
  • Listens and responds to guest concerns to maintain a high level of guest satisfaction.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.
