About The Position

The banquet manager is responsible to oversee the operations of the banquet department for the Shooting Star Casino, Hotel & Event center. In all interactions, the position is responsible for providing STAR Experience to guests and fellow team members a first priority. Shooting Star Casino team members will always deliver excellent guest service to our guests and fellow co-workers. Requirements

  • Four-year college degree in business or related field is preferred; will consider a minimum of four years of related work experience (history) that demonstrates increased level of supervisory responsibility; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Minnesota driver’s license required with insurable driving record.
  • Must meet the requirements as prescribed by the Tribal-State compact for Gaming.
  • Ability to effectively manage all aspects of the department and staff.
  • Ability and skills to direct and delegate to supervisors on leading staff and effectively mentoring Team Members.
  • Ability to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to and skill in assigning and directing work.
  • Ability to appraise the work of others and provide constructive feedback.
  • Ability to reward and discipline Team Members and address complaints and perform problem-resolution process.
  • Knowledge of budgeting process and procedures.
  • Knowledge of creating a strategic plan and goals for the department.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or other Team Members of the organization.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting and invoice preparation; ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages, proportions.
  • Knowledge of sales, banquet and hotel departmental policies.
  • Ability to use office equipment, including a personal computer; familiarity with ordering and maintaining inventory.
  • Knowledge or ability to learn various computer programs used (Lawson, Entrée, Kronos, Microsoft programs including Outlook, Excel and Word).
  • Ability to frequently stand and walk for long periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the selection, training, development and performance of banquet staff to retain a motivated, professional workforce for Shooting Star Casino, Hotel & Event Center.
  • Recruits and selects applicants for job vacancies considering the requirements of the job, and the skills/abilities of applicants.
  • Establishes and communicated job responsibilities and performance expectations to assure mutual understanding of desired results.
  • Assesses Team Member performance, provides positive and constructive feedback on an ongoing basis to reinforce desired results.
  • Identifies training and/or development opportunities that will assist the Team Member in achieving enhanced job performance and/or career objectives.
  • Assures job descriptions are kept up to date.
  • Ensures proper management of daily operations of the banquet department to enhance guest satisfaction at Shooting Star Casino, Hotel & Event Center.
  • Responsible for managing all areas encompassed within the banquet department.
  • Responsible for smooth operations of the banquet department at all times; ensures quality guest services are provided, and all areas are appropriately staffed.
  • Research and develop policies and procedures, including research and communication with other departments.
  • Works closely with accounting to ensure procedures are followed.
  • Coordinates efforts between the director, sales and marketing to promote the entire property.
  • Financially responsible to develop and monitor the financial process and departmental planning to promote smooth and consistent operations.
  • Establish budget for the fiscal year and monitor expenditure to work within the department.
  • Make decisions regarding purchases, controlling labor and costs, and monitoring concessions and cash bar sales.
  • Creates strategic plans for the department; reviews periodically and completes status reports to director.
  • Reviews paperwork and ensures completeness and accuracy, including performance evaluations and reporting requirements and provides assistance as required.
  • Listens and responds to guest concerns to maintain a high level of guest satisfaction.
  • Communicate with sales department to ensure all guest needs are clarified and expectations are met.
  • Inspects and evaluates property for maintenance repairs and ensures compliance with appropriate regulations.
  • Explain and interpret rules and regulations to employees and guests and ensure all regulations are followed.
  • Provides prompt and courteous customer service by listening to and answering a variety of customer questions and complaints and routing to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure the strictest of confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.
