About The Position

The Banquet Houseman is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and setup of meeting and banquet spaces according to specifications. This role involves the daily tear-down and setup of rooms, including furniture arrangement, and the proper care, movement, and storage of equipment such as tables, chairs, risers, and dance floors. The position requires continuous cleaning of service corridors, pre-function spaces, and storage areas, as well as proper control and storage of meeting room supplies. During events, the Banquet Houseman may assist banquet servers with refreshing food and coffee services and attend to the needs of conference speakers, including obtaining conference materials or fulfilling special requests. The role also involves assisting in maintaining health, safety, and sanitation standards, and participating as a team member with various banquet staff to ensure a smooth and efficient operation that meets high standards of customer service. Additionally, the position requires maintaining a consistent attendance record, reporting equipment malfunctions, exhibiting a professional appearance, and maintaining a friendly, courteous demeanor. The Banquet Houseman must respond to customer inquiries, attend staff meetings, maintain confidentiality, and perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Six (6) months banquet houseman experience preferred.
  • Must meet all knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Must be twenty one years (21) of age.
  • No felony, theft or stealing convictions.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background investigation, obtain and maintain gaming license.
  • Knowledge banquet operations and catering principles.
  • Ability to create a friendly atmosphere and demonstrate excellent customer service.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships-With individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellence in everything and continually seek improvement in results.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral form.

Responsibilities

  • Properly clean and set meeting rooms and banquet space per specification on BEO or as directed by banquet management.
  • Tear-down and set up of the meeting and event rooms daily; this may include stripping the room of all its furniture and resetting the room per the specifications outlined by the BEO.
  • Proper care, movement and storage of all equipment such as tables, chairs, risers, dance floor and lecterns is required.
  • Clean up the meeting and event rooms periodically. This includes but is not limited to straightening chairs, such as pads and pens.
  • On a continuous basis, keep service corridors, pre-function space and storage areas clean, organized and unobstructed.
  • Proper control and storage of meeting room supplies such as linen pads, pens/pencils and candy etc. is required.
  • Responsible for keeping assigned work area clean and sanitary.
  • Replenish water requirements as specified or requested.
  • During events, duties may include assisting the banquet servers by refreshing the food service or coffee service as well as attending to the conference speaker's needs.
  • Obtain copies of conference materials or fulfill special requests such as food of drink orders as requested or directed.
  • Assist in maintaining standards of health, safety and sanitation.
  • Participates as a team member with Banquet Servers, Banquet Bartenders, Banquet Bar-backs, Banquet Cooks, Banquet Captains, Banquet Supervisors and all other pertinent company employees in producing a smoothly and efficient operation that meets the highest standards of customer service.
  • Responsible for maintaining a consistent and regular attendance record.
  • Knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment.
  • Report all equipment malfunction to Supervisor.
  • Exhibit a professional appearance and maintains a friendly, cheerful and courteous demeanor at all times.
  • Respond to customer questions and issues in a friendly and courteous manner; contact supervisor as needed.
  • Attend and participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
  • Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned or required.
