About The Position

The Banquet Captain is responsible for organizing, communicating, and leading the team to ensure successful events. This role requires motivating staff to create a positive and cohesive team that delivers exceptional service. The Banquet Captain must maintain a thorough understanding of hotel and departmental standards, including the correct use and maintenance of all equipment. Cleanliness is a shared responsibility. A full understanding of all banquet menus and beverages specified by the group(s) is essential. The role demands flexibility, the ability to quickly respond to client needs, and a keen attention to detail for all events.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education – High school graduate, some college preferred.
  • Minimum Age – 18 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages to guests.
  • Minimum Experience – Banquet serving experience required.
  • Must work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Good to excellent communication skills in English both verbal and written.
  • Capable of working consecutive hours without sitting down.
  • Must be able to work on site due to daily needs of the job requirements.
  • Must be able to stand for the entirety of shift, while reaching, bending and stooping.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds / trays / ovals across short-medium distance.
  • Must be able to properly and effectively communicate with guests and teammates, in person and via phone.

Nice To Haves

  • Past Banquet Captain & Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Any previous culinary training also preferred.
  • Certification of alcohol awareness program, training in food, wine & liquor service preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively and efficiently supervise staff to ensure successful banquet events.
  • Train staff and maintain a high level of performance according to hotel standards.
  • Assist at any time to ensure optimum service to guests.
  • Maintain knowledge of daily features and activities within the hotel and on the island.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment at all times.
  • Follow directions from the client, Banquet Director, Banquet Manager, and Catering and Conference Services Manager.
  • Execute banquet events with minimal supervision.
  • Uphold the core values and policies & procedures of the resort.
  • Use Micros and manual systems, as well as Microsoft Office applications.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
