About The Position

The Bankruptcy Attorney will be responsible for managing bankruptcy matters (mostly Chapter 7, with potential for some Chapter 13 matters in longer term) from inception through resolution, including client counseling, case strategy, motion practice, and court appearances. This Attorney will also be asked to represent claimants in adversary proceedings to discharge student loan debt. Appropriate training and mentorship will be provided. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with attorneys, paralegals, and support staff. This role presents a unique opportunity to become part of a growing practice focused on bankruptcy litigation and student loan relief.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California
  • Admission to practice before the U.S. Bankruptcy Court and U.S. District Court in California, including the Central District of California.
  • 3–5 years of bankruptcy and insolvency experience
  • Strong understanding of Chapters 7 and 13 bankruptcy proceedings
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational and case management abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal and client communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Admission in Southern and Northern Districts of California is a plus.
  • Experience handling adversary proceedings, contested matters, and motion practice is a plus.
  • Experience in bankruptcy litigation required; experience with adversary proceedings preferred
  • Familiarity with CM/ECF filing systems
  • Experience appearing regularly before the U.S. Bankruptcy Court
  • Experience handling evidentiary hearings and contested matters
  • Consumer bankruptcy or creditor rights experience
  • Trial experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Represent clients in bankruptcy proceedings, including Chapters 7 and 13
  • Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, objections, briefs, and other court filings
  • Manage student loan adversary proceedings from inception through resolution
  • Attend hearings, status conferences, creditor meetings, mediations, and court appearances
  • Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on bankruptcy and litigation-related issues
  • Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, trustees, and court personnel
  • Develop case strategies and manage settlement negotiations
  • Maintain compliance with court deadlines and procedural requirements
  • Collaborate with attorneys and staff where necessary to ensure efficient case management
  • Assist in the continued growth and development of the firm's bankruptcy practice
