The standard duties of a bank teller include serving customers by completing account transactions, providing account services by receiving deposits and loan payments, cashing checks, issuing savings withdrawals, and recording night and mail deposits. Tellers also sell cashier’s checks, gift cards, pre-paid cards and money orders. They answer questions in person or on the telephone and refer customers to other bank services as necessary. Tellers record transactions by logging cashier’s checks and other special services, and preparing currency transaction reports. They cross-sell bank products by answering inquiries, informing customers of new services and product promotions, ascertaining customers’ needs, and directing customers to a branch representative. Tellers complete special requests by opening and closing accounts, taking orders for checks, exchanging foreign currencies, completing safe-deposit box procedures, and providing special statements, copies, and referrals. They reconcile cash drawers by proving cash transactions, counting and packaging currency and coins, and reconciling other transactions. Tellers maintain a supply of cash and currency and turn in excess cash and mutilated currency to the head teller. They comply with bank operations and security procedures by participating in all dual-control functions, auditing other tellers’ currency, and assisting in certification of proof. Tellers maintain customer confidence and protect bank operations by keeping information confidential. They contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Other duties may be assigned.
