About The Position

The Bank Examiner Trainee works as an integral member of the Banking and Financial Institutions Division’s examination team to evaluate financial institutions for safety and soundness. Examiners are responsible for gathering and analyzing financial institution data to assess their financial and operational condition, assess their adherence with applicable laws and regulations, and inform, support, and develop recommendations and conclusions using technical writing. This recruitment will fill two positions, based in Helena and Billings, Montana. Telework is available for both positions, with required in-office days at the assigned location. Specific expectations will be outlined with the job offer and must follow state policy.

Requirements

  • Basic principles and practices of banking, business administration, accounting and auditing
  • Ability to continually learn and grow
  • Ability to analyze data and trends
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in business administration, banking, finance, accounting or a related field

Responsibilities

  • Gathering and analyzing financial institution data
  • Assessing the financial and operational condition of financial institutions
  • Assessing adherence with applicable laws and regulations
  • Informing, supporting, and developing recommendations and conclusions using technical writing
  • Traveling on-site to banks and credit unions and for training, both in our beautiful state and out-of-state, up to 30% of the time
  • Collaborating with colleagues and management teams at institutions across the State to achieve positive regulatory outcomes
  • Learning, growing, and participating in a well-established community of practice
