Balance Sheet Strategy Analyst

Pathward, N.A.
$86,000 - $145,000Hybrid

About The Position

The Balance Sheet Strategy Analyst designs and maintains the financial models, data workflows, dashboards, and reporting used to support the Bank's loan sale and broader balance sheet optimization strategies. The role evaluates loan sales, participations, syndications, and other off-balance-sheet alternatives by analyzing pricing, transaction structures, portfolio impacts, expected financial outcomes, ROA modeling, and required data capture for retained and transferred exposures for existing and new products. This is an analytics and solution-development role rather than a process-management position. The analyst will use Excel, Power BI, SQL, Matillion, SharePoint, and related platforms to turn loan-level data into scalable decision tools and actionable recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, business or data analytics, information systems, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Two to five years of experience in banking, commercial lending, treasury, capital markets, portfolio analytics, FP&A, or transaction advisory.
  • Strong financial modeling skills, including valuation, cash flow analysis, forecasting, and scenario analysis; advanced Excel proficiency required.
  • Experience developing Power BI data models and dashboards and working with large loan-level or financial datasets; working knowledge of SQL preferred.
  • Ability to independently structure complex analytical problems and communicate clear recommendations to technical and nontechnical stakeholders; loan-sale, syndication, securitization, commercial loan pricing, or balance sheet management experience preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Matillion, Alteryx, Azure Data Factory, dbt, Informatica, or another data-integration platform preferred; SharePoint experience is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Own and enhance the models, dashboards, and data workflows supporting loan portfolio strategy; build financial models comparing hold, sell, participation, syndication, and other alternatives.
  • Analyze pricing, expected sale proceeds, gain or loss on sale, retained economics, funding-cost savings, capital impacts, and future revenue tradeoffs.
  • Develop valuation, cash flow, profitability, balance sheet forecasting, and scenario models incorporating rates, credit performance, prepayments, market pricing, and transaction timing.
  • Develop ROA and balance sheet optimization models for historical portfolio performance and new business origination, incorporating asset yield, funding cost, capital usage, credit risk, liquidity impact, and strategic balance sheet objectives.
  • Identify and evaluate loans and portfolios for potential sale based on economics, strategic fit, concentration, and balance sheet usage.
  • Support the loan-sale lifecycle through portfolio stratifications, valuation, bid comparisons, transaction recommendations, forecasts, and post-transaction performance analysis.
  • Build Power BI data models and dashboards and use SQL, Matillion, or comparable tools to integrate data, automate recurring analysis, and improve visibility into inventory, pipeline, pricing, and results.
  • Define data capture, reporting, and governance requirements for off-balance-sheet activities, including fields needed to monitor sold, participated, syndicated, or otherwise transferred exposures and assess ongoing economics and risk.
  • Establish validation, reconciliation, change-control, and documentation standards for models and recurring analytical outputs; maintain organized materials in SharePoint.
  • Track transactions against assumptions, translate results and investor feedback into recommendations, and present findings to management and governance committees.
