About The Position

This shift-based position is the operator of the baggage handling system plant including all conveyors, in-line x-ray units and BHS components. The operator constantly occupies the Baggage Handling System Control Room and monitors the electro-mechanical facilities of the baggage handling system including the integrated hold baggage screening via SCADA and CCTV. A technical operator, coordinating fault rectifications as well as bag jam resolutions from the control room. The operator proactively takes action in case of disturbance and communicates to staff and stakeholders. These tasks are aided by several so-called high level control systems such as the SCADA, Bag Performance Monitoring Tools, CCTV, and SAC. The SCADA Operator commandeers the group of bag jammers and ensures they respond to any occurrence that disrupts the bag flow in the system and ensures that the teams are safe in the system while performing their tasks by isolating the relevant system parts. The position is cross trained with the BHS Control Room Scheduling Operator.

Requirements

  • Experience in operating automated systems
  • Experience in leading baggage operations
  • Able to make decisions by taking into consideration Munich Airport NJ’s standard operating procedures, safety regulations, and service agreements.
  • Provides operational solutions to technical or operational problems.
  • Able to understand complex sequences of operation and launch the process to be executed when necessary.
  • Must be able to understand complex technical equipment including IT and software processes.
  • Excellent knowledge in standard PC application software

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an aviation-related or any of the BHS disciplines preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manning the BHS Control Room on shift basis
  • Monitors the BHS plant via the SCADA system and the CCTV
  • Reacts to any fault that occurs in the BHS and is indicated on the SCADA
  • Acts on irregular observations on the CCTV such as bag jams or unauthorized intrusions
  • Reports technical errors to the relevant maintenance team
  • Ensures undisrupted baggage flows
  • Starts and stops conveyor lines and BHS sub-systems
  • Coordinates maintenance activities with the field teams
  • Communicates occurrences of operational impact to Duty Manager and stakeholders
  • Constantly monitors the alarm banner on the SCADA workstations
  • Monitors the event log of the BHS
  • Resets alarms after successful alarm resolution
  • Constant coordination with the Scheduling Operator
  • Retrieves statistics such as bag counts and screening data from the systems and reports them to the BHS Analyst
  • Maintains a log of events in the BHS control room logbook (manually and electronically)
  • Ensures compliance with agreed standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensures compliance with service level agreements (SLA) and key performance indicators (KPI) of contractors working in the BHS
  • Interferes where safety and security violations are observed
  • Supervises the trunk radio charging stations
  • Coordinates evacuation in case of emergencies
  • Operates the BHS Scheduling workstations in the same control room if and when required
  • Shall never leave the position unattended Comfort pauses such as meal or toilet breaks will be covered by the Scheduling Operator
  • Prepares a 24-hour shift report
