The 1099-Contract Investigator conducts federal background investigations on a contract basis in support of national security and suitability investigations. The role includes fieldwork, such as interviews and records retrieval, and preparing reports of investigations (ROIs) in compliance with applicable laws, federal standards, and federal agency regulations. Investigators accept assignments involving travel throughout their geographic area of responsibility and may have opportunities for temporary duty assignments outside that area. The investigator meets assigned deadlines and government and industry standards for quality, integrity, timeliness, and productivity. The role also involves handling data and documents appropriately, keeping required training, security, and credentials current, maintaining professional working relationships, and reporting field-observed trends and updates. Compensation is based on assigned cases completed, not an annual salary; the stated estimated range reflects potential earnings for a 40-hour workweek, from the base rate up to the Premier Contract Investigator rate.
