About The Position

The Background Investigator works directly under the Director of Compliance, aiding in preliminary applicant investigations to ensure regulatory compliance with Federal and State regulations and Tribal Gaming Ordinance. This role involves conducting thorough background checks for various employee statuses, managing documentation, and ensuring adherence to gaming regulations. The position requires a high level of confidentiality and knowledge of relevant laws and policies. Applicants must be 21 or older and are subject to an Indian Preference Policy and Equal Opportunity Employer guidelines.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 or older to apply.
  • Cannot be related to anyone working for Augustine Enterprises.
  • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Bilingual in both Spanish and English is required.
  • Required to possess a Notary Public appointment by the State of California.
  • Required to possess a Fingerprint Roller certificate.
  • Must obtain and maintain an Augustine Gaming License.
  • Able to uphold a high level of confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of investigative techniques and principles.
  • Knowledge of ethical considerations in a regulatory and government environment.
  • Knowledge of Federal (including NIGC), State, Tribal Internal Controls, laws, rules, regulations, and policies regarding Class II and Class III Games.
  • Skilled in preparing and maintaining reports and documentation necessary for regulatory enforcement of the Secretarial Procedures and Tribal Gaming Ordinance.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and related software (such as MS Word, Excel, and Access) to maintain a Live Scan fingerprinting system, database, and records.

Nice To Haves

  • A degree in Criminal Justice, Gaming, Administration of Justice, Business, or any closely related field is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a Gaming environment in addition to the preferred Education Requirements listed above.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct background investigations for initial applicants; renewal, promotion, transfer, and driver investigations for employees.
  • Check references, employment, and gaming license verifications.
  • Utilize investigatory software to process provided information and conduct financial investigations.
  • Prepare investigative reports detailing steps taken and results.
  • Meet with applicants and employees to present and review applications, re-interviewing as necessary.
  • Take fingerprints and notarize documents.
  • Create badges and employee files.
  • Complete the licensing process.
  • Update databases with information on new licensees, terminations, transfers, promotions, leaves of absence, updated information, and replacement licenses.
  • File PAN form information.
  • Meet with employees for 30-day agreements and disclosure of information.
  • Provide employees with gaming licenses and credit reports.
  • Communicate with Human Resources, casino employees, and Management.
