About The Position

Bright Vision Technologies is seeking a Backend Systems Engineer with deep expertise in distributed systems to design, build, and operate large-scale, high-throughput backend services for mission-critical workloads. The engineer will architect core platforms used by other engineering teams, with a focus on scalability, reliability, performance, and clean engineering practices. The role requires strong computer science fundamentals and practical experience operating distributed systems at scale, including balancing consistency, availability, and latency. This is a full-time, direct W-2 position with Bright Vision Technologies, working remotely from the continental United States. The position is part of the company’s in-house, long-term, multi-year Statement of Work engagement; no third-party client or vendor is involved. The stated salary range is $100,000–$150,000, with competitive base compensation commensurate with experience plus benefits. No new H-1B sponsorship is available, but qualified candidates requiring an H-1B transfer are welcome to apply. A technical coding assessment is mandatory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • Six or more years of professional backend engineering experience, including significant experience with distributed systems.
  • Strong programming skills in Java, Go, Scala, or a similar language.
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems concepts, including consensus, replication, and CAP trade-offs.
  • Hands-on experience with high-throughput messaging systems such as Kafka.
  • Experience operating systems at scale, including capacity planning and performance tuning.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with relational and NoSQL data stores.
  • Hands-on experience with a major cloud platform: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and mentorship skills.
  • Willingness to work directly as a full-time W-2 employee of Bright Vision Technologies; C2C, 1099, and third-party arrangements are not accepted.
  • Confidence in technical abilities and hands-on experience; a technical coding assessment is mandatory.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teams.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes-based platforms in production.
  • Exposure to service-mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd.
  • Familiarity with chaos engineering practices and tools.
  • Open-source contributions to relevant distributed systems projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement large-scale distributed backend systems using Java, Go, Scala, or similar high-performance languages.
  • Architect data partitioning, replication, and consistency strategies appropriate to workload requirements.
  • Build resilient APIs and event-driven services with observability, idempotency, and graceful degradation.
  • Optimize systems for latency, throughput, and cost using profiling, benchmarking, and load testing.
  • Lead architecture reviews, technical design discussions, and trade-off analyses.
  • Implement failure-handling patterns such as retries, timeouts, circuit breakers, bulkheads, and saga workflows.
  • Design and operate relational, key-value, document, and search data stores at scale.
  • Build service observability using structured logs, metrics, and distributed tracing.
  • Drive incident response and post-incident learning for critical backend services.
  • Mentor mid-level engineers and set an example in code quality, design, and operational rigor.
  • Partner with SRE and platform teams to improve reliability and reduce operational toil.
  • Contribute to long-term architecture and platform strategy, shape multi-year technical roadmaps, and align near-term execution with broader engineering direction.
  • Maintain current technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, design decisions, configuration references, runbooks, and operational procedures.

Benefits

  • Benefits are offered in addition to competitive base salary; specific benefits are not listed.
