About The Position

We are looking for a Backend Engineer with 5+ years of experience to join our Assess engineering team. The role involves building secure, scalable financial products and working directly with other engineers to own, build, and scale the Assess backend infrastructure and product offering from the ground up. While the primary focus is on backend systems (Python, Go, and Kubernetes), a pragmatic, product-driven mindset is valued, with the ability to contribute to the React frontend when necessary to ensure feature completion.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience building and scaling production-grade back-end systems.
  • Deep, production-level expertise in Go and/or Python (comfort switching between both is key).
  • AI Tool Fluency: Highly proficient in leveraging AI-first coding workflows to maximize output and troubleshoot rapidly.
  • Hands-on Kubernetes experience: Ability to set up, debug, and manage containerized environments independently.
  • Product-oriented, "founder" mindset: Care about the user and the business, not just the code. Know when to build a perfect system and when to ship a scrappy MVP.

Responsibilities

  • Co-own the entire back-end stack: Design, build, and maintain core micro-services in Python and Go.
  • Leverage AI-first workflows: Use AI-first development workflows to act as a force multiplier, moving fast without sacrificing code quality. Focus on creating detailed plans to be executed by agents rather than writing code directly. Use technical and analytic skills to evaluate the outcome and ensure generated code fulfills all requirements.
  • Own infrastructure: Manage, deploy, and scale services using Kubernetes, ensuring high availability and system reliability.
  • Collaborate on product & architecture: Partner directly with the team to make rapid architectural, tool selection, and product roadmap decisions.
  • Optimize for speed and security: Build fast, while maintaining high security and compliance standards necessary for financial systems.
  • Wear multiple hats: Run Dev Ops, monitor production systems, and occasionally touch the React/Typescript front-end to unblock feature releases.

Benefits

  • Impact & Ownership: An environment where ownership is valued and strengthened.
  • Flexibility: A modern, hybrid working model across Berlin and Munich locations.
  • Personal growth: Support for development with a personal budget, semi-annual feedback, and clear growth paths.
  • Pioneering spirit: Become part of a team with genuine passion for the future of open banking.
