Backend Engineer – Java or Python & AWS
About The Position
We are seeking a Cloud Native Backend Engineer with strong Java or Python development experience, AWS expertise, and a background in building APIs and microservices. The engineer will support enterprise data platform capabilities, with a primary focus on multi-region resiliency and additional responsibilities involving data lifecycle management. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience developing cloud-native applications, designing databases, automating deployments, and building resilient services in AWS environments. The role is located in Jersey City, New Jersey. Local candidates are preferred, and an in-person interview is required. The position is open to W-2 candidates only; C2C, 1099, and third-party resumes are not accepted. Due to the nature of the role, the client accepts only U.S. citizens, Green Card holders, and Green Card EAD holders.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of applied software engineering experience.
- Strong proficiency in Java or Python.
- Experience developing REST APIs and microservices.
- Hands-on AWS experience with ECS, Lambda, IAM, SQS, SNS, Glue, S3, RDS, and Route 53.
- Strong SQL, database modeling, and database design skills.
- Experience with CI/CD tools, particularly Jenkins and Bitbucket.
- Working knowledge of Terraform and infrastructure as code.
- Basic understanding of workflow orchestration.
- Understanding of cloud-native application development, resiliency, and distributed systems.
Nice To Haves
- Experience implementing multi-region resiliency and disaster recovery capabilities.
- Familiarity with data reconciliation across cloud platforms.
- Experience with data retention, archiving, and lifecycle management.
- Exposure to enterprise data platforms and cloud-based data services.
