About The Position

The Back End Application Developer contributes to the design, building, and maintenance of the server-side aspects of digital platforms, including event-driven services, web applications, and APIs. The role calls for foundational programming skills and an interest in solving technical problems while ensuring back-end systems run smoothly and integrate effectively with other platform components. This position is located at the company’s Cleveland Headquarters office and is not hybrid or remote. The role is not eligible for work-authorization sponsorship now or in the future, including conversion to an H-1B visa. The position involves contact with employees and access to confidential or proprietary information and other items of value. The company has determined that a criminal-history review is necessary to protect its business, operations, reputation, staff, employees, and business relationships.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field, or at least 3 years of application development or application engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
2–4 years of back-end application development or engineering experience.
Good programming skills in back-end languages such as Java, Python, or Ruby.
Familiarity with back-end frameworks.
Moderate understanding of web protocols.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally with technical stakeholders.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future for employment visa status.
Must be at least 18 years of age.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Spring Boot and microservices architecture.

Responsibilities

Analyze back-end architecture, implement suggested optimizations, and verify that changes improve overall system performance.
Write, review, and optimize code, collaborating with senior engineers to ensure it is reliable, reusable, scalable, and secure.
Design and implement efficient integration solutions and maintain application functionality and scalability in collaboration with senior team members and front-end developers.
Support discussions with technology leaders to understand business and technical requirements and priorities for back-end systems.
Update status and task completion at each stage while assisting with monitoring the performance and health of services, databases, and other components.
Support the team in troubleshooting and debugging complex application and database system issues.
Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies relevant to back-end application development, expand knowledge, and share insights with the team.
Gather input and recommend ideas for planning, designing, and executing unit tests or other quality assurance measures.
Support senior team members in training digital platform users in best practices for maintaining web applications and APIs.
Create and refine detailed documentation, incorporate best practices, and clearly communicate design and implementation under the guidance of experienced team members.
