About The Position

Skagit Valley College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track faculty member for its Bachelor of Applied Science in Management (BASM) program. This position supports the program's growth and evolution, preparing working professionals for leadership roles. The curriculum emphasizes contemporary management practices, cross-functional decision-making, and the impact of technology. The BASM program utilizes a spiral curriculum and an online cohort model to provide flexibility and foster student connection. The ideal candidate will have practical management experience to translate into effective learning, contributing to the program's future development. Faculty typically teach 15 credits per quarter. The appointment begins Fall Quarter 2027, with potential for earlier transition. The position is based at the Mount Vernon Campus, with occasional teaching at the Whidbey Island Campus.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a field relevant to management education or the candidate’s professional area of expertise; candidates with substantial relevant professional experience may be considered, provided that a master’s degree is completed within 18 months of hire.
  • At least three (3) years of professional management experience with direct accountability for workplace operations, decisions, or outcomes.
  • Demonstrated teaching or coaching experience with adults in professional or educational settings.
  • Experience working with learners from varied professional and educational backgrounds.
  • Evidence of work with generative AI or other emerging technologies in professional or educational settings.

Responsibilities

  • Teach across the BASM curriculum, connecting management and leadership concepts across disciplines and workplace contexts.
  • Utilize effective instructional and assessment practices to strengthen student learning and growth.
  • Support working adult learners in developing agency for their learning, recognizing their existing experience.
  • Connect learning to contemporary management practice, using workplace experience and evolving technology to enhance managerial judgment.
  • Maintain professional currency in management practice and teaching to sustain instructional excellence.
  • Partner with the Department Chair and BASM faculty to identify priorities for program improvement.
  • Use evidence from student learning, program assessment, and the contemporary workplace to inform program and curriculum development.
  • Contribute to program improvements that strengthen learning across courses and maintain coherence as the program evolves.
  • Build and maintain advising relationships with an assigned group of BASM students, providing ongoing academic and professional guidance.
  • Support students in connecting program learning with their professional goals and workplace contexts.
  • Contribute to the program’s wrap-around support model by maintaining meaningful connections with students throughout their BASM experience.
  • Participate meaningfully in college service and governance.
  • Build and sustain employer and community relationships that strengthen the program’s workplace relevance and community connection.
  • Demonstrate (and sustain through professional development) instructional excellence by incorporating high-impact practices and subject matter expertise and drawing on college resources including technology, to create a learning environment that supports student achievement.
  • Provide consistent, timely formative and summative performance assessment, promote student self-assessment, and create opportunities for student feedback to support student achievement and engagement.
  • Contribute to ongoing program and course assessment activities and to the related development and revision of curriculum.
  • Foster relationship-based advising connections with students in support of student’s academic and career aspirations.
  • Participate in college governance, campus life and/or community relations.
