The Azure solutions Architect is responsible for designing, governing, and continuously improving Microsoft Azure cloud environments for Synoptek clients. This role serves as the subject matter expert for Azure infrastructure, networking, and identity by translating business requirements into scalable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud architectures. The Azure Architect collaborates closely with IT Security and Application teams to establish cloud standards, drive Azure adoption, and ensure operational excellence across Azure workloads while supporting enterprise governance and business objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and at least 10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305) required or willing to obtain within six months.
  • Customarily has at least 8 years of experience in Information Technology infrastructure.
  • Customarily has at least 4 years of experience in cloud architecture or senior cloud engineering roles.
  • Deep hands-on expertise with Microsoft Azure across computer, networking, storage, security, and identity services.
  • Experience with Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Conditional Access, Privileged Identity Management (PIM), and hybrid identity.
  • Strong scripting skills using PowerShell and/or Azure CLI.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to translate business objectives into cloud architecture solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on security and reliability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Self-directed with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with Microsoft Azure services and cloud technologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional Microsoft certifications including AZ-700 (Networking), AZ-500 (Security), and SC-300 (Identity) preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Intune and enterprise endpoint management preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 workloads and migration activities preferred.
  • Experience with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) or Windows 365 preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and own end-to-end Microsoft Azure architectures for infrastructure, platform, and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) workloads aligned with business goals.
  • Develop and maintain Azure reference architectures and cloud design patterns.
  • Lead the design and implementation of Azure Landing Zones and governance models.
  • Evaluate and recommend Azure services, SKUs, and deployment patterns to meet performance, reliability, scalability, and cost objectives.
  • Lead architectural reviews for new projects and ensure solutions comply with enterprise architecture standards.
  • Design Azure hub-and-spoke network topologies, Virtual Network (VNet) peering, ExpressRoute, and VPN Gateway connectivity.
  • Design and govern Network Security Groups (NSGs), Azure Firewall policies, and Private Endpoint configurations.
  • Oversee enterprise Domain Name System (DNS) strategy, including Azure Private DNS Zones and hybrid DNS resolution.
  • Collaborate with networking teams on Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) integration and site-to-cloud connectivity.
  • Define and enforce Zero Trust security architecture using Microsoft Entra ID, Conditional Access, and Privileged Identity Management (PIM).
  • Design identity governance frameworks including Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Microsoft Entra ID P1/P2 policies, and workload identity federation.
  • Oversee Azure Virtual Machine lifecycle management, Availability Sets, Virtual Machine Scale Sets, and backup/disaster recovery strategies.
  • Architect and govern Azure storage solutions including Azure Blob Storage, Azure Files, and Managed Disks.
  • Establish monitoring and observability frameworks using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights.
  • Drive FinOps practices including tagging strategies, cost allocation, Reserved Instance planning, and budget alerting.
  • Develop and maintain Azure Policy initiatives to enforce enterprise compliance.
  • Own the Azure governance framework including naming conventions, tagging policies, and resource lock strategies.
  • Ensure cloud architecture complies with HIPAA, SOC 2, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct architecture reviews and cloud maturity assessments.
  • Mentor and develop engineers across infrastructure and support teams on Microsoft Azure best practices.
  • Serve as the technical escalation point for complex Azure incidents and architecture-related issues.
  • Engage with Microsoft account teams and Technical Account Managers (TAMs) regarding product roadmap, licensing, and support activities.
  • Contribute to internal technical training programs and lead Azure architecture workshops.
