About The Position

The Assistant Vice President of Employment is responsible for the oversight of all Employment Services, including procurement of paid work opportunities in enclave employment sites and competitive employment for individuals participating in the organization’s CBDS and Career Services program. The position will be expected to establish, maintain and nurture business contacts that will advance the efforts of the agency. The position will oversee the Career Services division, including MassAbility and DDS, and will work closely with the AVP of CBDS to collaborate services between CBDS programs and employment opportunities. The position is responsible for compliance with all relevant DOL, OSHA, and other pertinent federal and state regulations. This individual is a member of the senior management team. The role involves developing an effective vision for the agency’s employment services that reflects the needs, abilities and preferences of the individuals being served by the agency, and forming effective business relationships with the general business community that result in paid work opportunities for the individuals participating in the work programs.

Requirements

  • Five years or more experience in Vocational Rehabilitation.
  • The ability to effectively understand the services provided by the agency and the abilities of the individuals we serve and to articulately ‘sell’ those abilities to the general business community.
  • The ability to work effectively with many different groups of individuals from business/human service professionals to program staff and the individuals we serve that result in a steady flow of paid work opportunities for the individuals we serve.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Thorough knowledge, or willingness to learn, and understanding of DOL and OSHA regulations along with any other applicable state or federal regulations and the ability to perform all necessary tasks to ensure that the corporation is in compliance with those regulations.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and the internet.
  • Successful completion of all state and agency mandated training.
  • Must be willing to authorize a Criminal History Background Check (CORI) and release of information concerning allegations from Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC), Department of Developmental Services (DDS), and other agencies.
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Must be fluent in English and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with a variety of different individuals including business professionals, supervisees, other employees of the organization, families, and members of the community, is imperative.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities along with flexible problem-solving skills and creativity.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Vocational Rehabilitation or related fields is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an effective vision for the agency’s employment services that reflects the needs, abilities and preferences of the individuals being served by the agency.
  • Form effective business relationships with the general business community that result in paid work opportunities for the individuals participating in our work programs.
  • Supervision and oversight of the Career Service division and other assigned employees.
  • Participation in community-based business organizations, i.e. Chambers of Commerce and South Shore Employment Coalition, that will lead to expanded business contacts/opportunities for the agency.
  • Review all Price Approval Sheets/Contracts for enclave employment sites annually and modify to reflect change in minimum wage, as needed.
  • Ensures that supervision meetings/paperwork and annual staff evaluations are completed in a timely, organized fashion with all programs.
  • Evaluate the performance of management staff and program staff in their duties and make recommendations for staff development and program improvement.
  • Cooperate and interact with co-workers, clients, volunteers, and funders in a collaborative, courteous, empathic, and professional manner.
  • Demonstrate willingness and ability to be part of a team effort.
  • Attend weekly Senior Staff Meetings.
  • Perform additional duties, or substitute for others as required.
  • Additional duties may include but are not limited to clearing snow and ice from walkways, vehicles, parking lots, and roads using equipment like shovels and snow blowers while applying deicing agents to ensure safety.
  • Adhere to agency safety standards.
  • Adhere to all RTR policies and procedures.
  • Develop and provide all services in accordance with RTR’s philosophies including staff and Board beliefs.
