About The Position

Charleston School of Law seeks an Assistant Director of Career Services for a full-time position. This role involves facilitating and maximizing student professional identity development through advising, coaching, and exposure to employment opportunities. The ideal candidate will assist in leading the career services team, possess excellent communication and organizational skills, enjoy working with students, and be comfortable building relationships with alumni and prospective legal employers.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree is required.
  • Experience in the practice of law, higher education, student interaction/counseling, teaching, sales, or a related field is required.
  • Demonstrated track record of working successfully within a team is essential.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Comfortable speaking to groups and reaching out to develop new relationships.
  • Ability to manage projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to handle projects individually and as part of a team, including providing leadership of a team.
  • Proficiency working within computer-based programs including Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Pro, and willingness to master and maintain internal digital program for job postings and departmental resources.
  • Ability to counsel students regarding preparation of professional job-related documents.
  • Organizational skills, time management, attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality are essential.
  • Ability to multi-task is a necessity.
  • Ability to navigate complex problems, think creatively, and offer strategic solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one career development counseling services for students and alumni, including reviewing/editing resumes, cover letters, and other job application documents.
  • Prepare students for legal job interviews and provide targeted advice on career choices and professionalism.
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver career-related programming such as the On-Campus Interview, Resume Collect, Law Links, and Mock Interview Programs, the fall and spring Career Series, annual Speed Networking and Solo Practice Seminar events, workshops for summer job experiences, and the on-campus Fall Career Fair.
  • Coordinate the gathering and reporting of employment information for annual ABA and NALP reporting, including communicating with recent graduates and compiling data.
  • Develop, coordinate, and manage employer outreach and relationship development to support career-related programming and aid students in networking.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with attorneys, judges, law firms, agencies, organizations, and legal employers to increase job opportunities.
  • Facilitate Reciprocity requests from Charleston School of Law students and students from other law schools.
