About The Position

By emphasizing ONE Park, ONE Mission, One Team, the AVP of Credit Services oversees the Credit Services Department to preserve the credit union's assets by managing delinquent accounts, loan repayments, and collateral recovery. This role involves hiring, training, and coaching staff; analyzing delinquency trends; and ensuring department goals for delinquencies and losses are met. Additionally, the AVP of Credit Services reviews and approves collection recommendations, allocates resources to meet operational needs, and develops methods to inform management of trends affecting loan performance while ensuring compliance with legal requirements and credit union policies. The essential functions include allocating resources to address the department's operational needs; reviewing and deciding on loss mitigation recommendations from staff regarding delinquent loans, including approvals, denials, or modifications. The AVP will collaborate with staff to analyze the financial situations of delinquent borrowers and determine appropriate actions, ensuring all departmental responsibilities are fulfilled effectively. This role also ensures delinquencies and losses are within set goals, develops methods to analyze information and inform management of trends in loan underwriting contributing to delinquent/charged-off loans, and makes recommendations as required. Furthermore, the AVP recruits, evaluates, schedules, trains, mentors, and oversees the performance of credit services staff, completing performance reviews as needed, and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Five years to eight years of similar or related experience.
  • A bachelor's degree, or achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).
  • Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature.
  • Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level.
  • Fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.

Responsibilities

  • Allocate resources to address the department's operational needs; review and decide on loss mitigation recommendations from staff regarding delinquent loans, including approvals, denials, or modifications.

  • Maximize the collection and/or recovery of credit union assets from delinquent and charged-off accounts.
  • Hire, direct and motivate a highly qualified staff sufficient to meet the daily operational needs of the department.
  • Ensure all collection activities comply with applicable laws and in accordance with credit union policies and procedures.
  • Keep management informed of operational issues affecting the credit union's collection activities.
  • Complete performance reviews within the prescribed time frame.
  • Follow the credit union’s Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering policies and procedures, including running OFAC searches, completing investigative reports of suspicious activity and currency transaction reports timely and without error.
  • Maintain a professional work environment, promote teamwork, build respect among coworkers and present a businesslike appearance.
  • Follow all security policies and procedures and report discrepancies or suspicious activity to manager immediately.
