About The Position

The AVP of Claims Recovery is an officer-level leader responsible for setting the strategic direction of Claims Recovery operations and advancing recovery capabilities across the Claims organization. The role leads a team of more than 25 claims professionals, including direct and indirect reports, and oversees recovery training, technical development, and key strategic and operational objectives. The position offers a flexible hybrid work schedule and may be based in one of the listed CNA office locations. The AVP manages recovery claim programs, metrics, processes, results, and initiatives across the enterprise; oversees high-exposure recovery claims; and promotes operational efficiency and continuous improvement. The role also reports on recovery trends and exposures and coordinates with underwriting, legal, staff counsel, and actuarial partners to share knowledge of market trends, the legal climate, and loss recovery opportunities.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field, or equivalent.
Typically at least 10 years of claims experience.
Five years of management experience.
In-depth technical knowledge of claims management theories and practices and insurance industry operations.
Working knowledge of finance and accounting functions.
Ability to communicate and interact effectively with internal and external business partners at all levels, in team and/or matrix environments.
Leadership and management skills demonstrating integrity and professionalism.
Ability to drive results by identifying and resolving problems within scope of responsibility.
Knowledge of the insurance industry, its products, and services.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
Ability to use metrics and information analysis in business decision-making.
Ability to attract, manage, develop, and retain talent.
Ability to act with urgency, think creatively, solve problems using diverse ideas, and continuously broaden industry and technical skills.

Responsibilities

Implement strategic and operational objectives that affect the short-term success of recovery claims operations and drive superior results.
Lead, direct, and manage staff, emphasizing talent optimization and succession planning in alignment with corporate strategy.
Manage enterprise-wide planning and leadership of recovery claim programs, metrics, processes, results, and initiatives.
Analyze and manage workflow and staffing to increase efficiency and productivity, and act as a liaison to senior management.
Provide technical oversight of high-exposure recovery claims to ensure files are investigated, evaluated, and managed in a timely manner.
Drive continuous improvement through initiatives, identifying emerging issues and trends through information analysis and technological resources.
Report recovery trends and exposures to internal and external business partners.
Coordinate with underwriting, legal, staff counsel, and actuarial teams to share knowledge about market trends, the legal climate, and loss recovery opportunities.
