Astrion•Wright-Patterson AFB, OH
•Onsite

About The Position

Astrion is preparing for a potential opportunity for an Avionics Integration Engineer to support the F-15 program at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. The role is not currently open; the company plans to interview qualified candidates in advance of the position coming under contract. The engineer will contribute to a mission-focused team supporting the F-15 and its air-superiority and national-defense mission. The position is full-time, requires a Secret clearance, and involves 10–25% travel. The role covers avionics engineering across requirements, subsystem definition and development, integration, verification, sustainment, modeling and simulation, test and evaluation, and airworthiness certification. The engineer will work independently on high-visibility or mission-critical program activities, provide technical advice, and may oversee the work of junior and journeyman contractor personnel. Work includes hardware and software development and integration, systems analysis and testing, radar engineering, aircraft avionics and interfaces, and support for Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programs and acquisition activities.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge, experience, and recognized ability in the relevant technical or professional field.
  • Ability to perform tasks and oversee the efforts of junior and journeyman contractor personnel in the technical or professional discipline.
  • Advanced knowledge of the discipline and comprehensive understanding of, and ability to apply, associated standards, procedures, and practices.
  • Ability to independently perform functional duties on high-visibility or mission-critical program aspects.
  • A BS degree and 20 years of experience, or an MS degree and 10 years of experience.
  • An ABET-accredited BS or MS degree in engineering.
  • Secret clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of avionics engineering supporting subsystem definition, development, integration, verification, ICD review, sustainment, modeling, simulation and analysis, test and evaluation, and airworthiness certification across hardware and software systems.
  • Knowledge of radar theory and principles, and understanding of radar design, development, and implementation.
  • Working knowledge of ITAR and foreign-disclosure processes, including Congressional notification and RIP/RIS approval processes, and ability to support the Government through those processes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and update program documentation relevant to avionics engineering requirements; assist the Government in developing system and subsystem specifications and engineering documents for milestone reviews and events.
  • Support development and testing of program system hardware and software and their integration into the system architecture; attend technical reviews, advise on installation paths, review test plans, and participate in system, subsystem, and component testing.
  • Support and conduct performance, cost, life-cycle cost, producibility, maintainability, supportability, reliability, technical and schedule risk assessments, and scheduling trade-off studies.
  • Support hardware and software development and related ground and flight test activities, including hardware-in-the-loop, subsystem integration labs, developmental test and evaluation, and initial operational test and evaluation.
  • Conduct systems analyses, including avionics design feasibility and state-of-the-art assessments, system capacity analysis, alternative-solution and architecture trade-offs, and operations-concept development; document results.
  • Analyze avionics and subsystems, including system threats, laser systems, computer systems, avionics interfaces, and multiplex data-bus communications; identify potential issues and areas for improvement for Government consideration.
  • Perform data-processing work involving centroiding, trackers, timing, data loading, software, and interfaces to combat or automation systems, including data requirements, data quantity, merging, and integration.
  • Conduct modeling, simulation, and analysis of radar, targets, and clutter or weather; test and evaluate radar performance by developing test plans and procedures, witnessing tests, and preparing reports for qualification, operational field, and factory system-level testing.
  • Support Aircraft Information Management Systems (AIMS) requirements, testing, and certification, as well as spectrum-management requirements, testing, and certification.
  • Apply CNS/ATM requirements, policies, and regulations to define requirements, complete compliance matrices, and support aircraft and supporting-system testing and certification.
  • Perform technical activities related to radar waveforms and signal and data processing for performance in EMI, ECM, multipath, ducting, and clutter environments. Activities may involve antenna and array technologies, beamforming, transmitter and receiver technologies, A/D technology, and radar signal-processing techniques.
  • Apply knowledge of aeronautical vehicle systems, software, and airborne or related ground-system avionics capabilities to core engineering tasks related to electronic warfare engineering.
  • For FMS programs, advise on U.S. Government policy and country-specific technical requirements; provide expertise across acquisition planning, execution, delivery, sustainment, and closure in accordance with DoD policies and guidelines.
  • Assist in monitoring, reviewing, analyzing, and coordinating security-assistance matters involving DoD and non-DoD agencies to support compliance with applicable policies, LORs, LOAs, the Foreign Assistance Act, AECA, ITAR, and other relevant legislation.
  • Assist with P&A and LOA work, development and editing of SOOs and SOWs, and Government-assigned reviews of acquisition documents, export licenses, and other manufacturer-submitted documentation; assist with release and coordination of Government responses.
  • Assist in implementing and executing assigned LOAs in accordance with the AECA and Security Assistance Management Manual, DSCA Manual 5105.38-M, completing assigned projects with no or minimal assistance.
  • Provide technical expertise and advice to SAPMs, line managers, and functional team members throughout acquisition; share insight on technical policy and lessons learned, and help identify requirements for new acquisitions or weapon-system modifications through sustainment and disposal.
  • Work with Government personnel, outside agencies, contractor personnel, and others to support the program; assist in preparing technical materials for internal and external briefings, presentations, documents, and reports.
