Avionics Electrical Engineering Intern - Spring/Summer 2027
About The Position
Hermeus is a venture-backed defense aviation company focused on rapid iterative prototyping to build the fastest aircraft in the world. They aim to deliver high-speed systems at the pace of the modern battlefield and provide critical capabilities to the U.S. and its allies. As an Avionics Electrical Engineering Intern, you will contribute to the design, testing, and integration of GNC systems, electrical hardware, control software, power distribution, and RF communications, shaping the future of commercial supersonic and hypersonic flight. The internship is available for approximately 16 weeks in Spring (January - April) or 12 weeks in Summer (May - August).
Requirements
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Entry level experience of C++, C, or other embedded programming languages.
- Experience with working with hardware integrations and embedded computers (Raspberry PIs, arduinos, STM32s).
- Strong understanding of engineering first principles
- Demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams
- Enthusiasm for aviation and Hermeus' mission
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- GPA of 3.0 or above
Responsibilities
- Conduct physical testing of subsystems and validate performance against requirements
- Develop and maintain detailed wire diagrams for subsystem integration
- Set up and configure hardware in lab environments for testing and validation
- Perform end-to-end subsystem testing, ensuring full integration of electrical, hardware, and software components
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software, electrical, and mechanical engineering) to troubleshoot and resolve integration issues
- Document test results, integration procedures, and system configurations
- Design and test custom electrical systems for both ground test and flight applications
- Ensure the seamless integration and compatibility of designs at the sub-system and integrated system level
