About The Position

This role directly contributes to Motional’s future in mobility and redefining transportation as a whole. As an AV Testing Operator you’ll be expected to hold safety at the highest level while operating our Autonomous Vehicles (AVs), have a strong attention to detail, outstanding communication practices both verbally and written, and embrace our values as a member of the Motional team. As an AV Testing Operator you’ll be working with new technologies in a fast paced environment being asked to adapt in our ever changing industry.

Requirements

  • Candidates must have and maintain a clean driving record for the previous 3 years and no DUIs for previous 10 years
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Must be able to successfully complete in-house driving course/examination
  • Able to work days, nights and weekends
  • Must be able to use company communication systems and communicate clearly and effectively both written and verbal
  • Must be able to read a map and possess knowledge of the Pittsburgh area
  • Minimum of Ten (10) years of overall licensed driving experience
  • Fully vaccinated by their start date

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as an Operator/Driver for Autonomous Vehicles, including some type of internal or external training on Autonomous Vehicle technology is preferred
  • Experience and training on providing subjective feedback on vehicle behaviors and environment
  • Local knowledge in test city of streets, geography and environmental features that may be challenging for Autonomous Vehicles
  • Basic working-knowledge of Autonomous Vehicle technology
  • Experience with NHTSA Levels 2-5 Autonomous Vehicles preferred

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate prototype-level Autonomous Vehicles on both defined and undefined routes, including a variety of geographic and environmental conditions
  • Operate in-vehicle data recording computers, including start/stop recording, data marking and minor debugging when issues arise
  • Provide clear, accurate and useful subjective feedback to the engineering teams on vehicle behavior observed
  • Ensure the safe operation of our test vehicles on public roads
  • Be able to provide quality service for passengers when applicable
  • Able read and understand highway and street signs and all traffic signals
  • Able to speak sufficient English in order to speak with public safety officers if necessary
  • Maintains current knowledge and adherence to all Motional operating policies, procedures and directives
  • Arrives to work on time and with proper driving credentials on his/her person and is ready to work
  • Maintains current knowledge and is in compliance with Pittsburgh traffic laws
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspection of the Autonomous Vehicle. This includes conducting an external/internal visual inspection of the vehicle and testing all necessary equipment, operating devices and controls
  • Properly care for assigned vehicle and all components as prescribed by the Company
  • Completes accident and incident reports
  • Control and manage emergency situations according to company procedures
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures
  • Able to work in a team environment and drive with another person. Maintain cooperative behavior towards fellow team members, leads, supervisors, and managers
  • Familiar with ride-hailing practices and ability to successfully interact and engage with members of the public
