The AV Service Technician supports AV system installation, commissioning, decommissioning, and ongoing service by handling break-fix issues, proactive maintenance, and system validation across high-profile spaces. This role bridges project delivery and operations through close collaboration with project teams, managed services, and client stakeholders to ensure reliable, well-documented systems. Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer‑focused mindset
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of AV systems including displays, projectors, audio, DSPs, control systems, and video conferencing
  • Intermediate proficiency installing, terminating, and troubleshooting low‑voltage cabling (HDMI, CAT5e/6, fiber) and infrastructure
  • Intermediate understanding of network concepts as they relate to AV (TCP/IP, IP‑based systems)
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve audio, video, control, and network issues independently
  • Experience leading small site teams and managing small to medium projects
  • Familiarity with Crestron, and QSC systems (changes and troubleshooting)
  • Knowledge of audio, video, and control signal flow
  • Ability to advise Project Managers and Engineers on installation‑related impacts to scope, schedule, and technical approach
  • Ability to safely use hand and power tools; soldering and crimping required
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge and use of AV test equipment
  • Understanding of industry installation safety codes and standards
  • Physical ability to climb ladders up to 35 feet and lift tools/equipment
  • Valid Driver’s License with an MVR meeting AVI‑SPL driving standards
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 4–6+ years of audiovisual installation and/or break‑fix service experience

Nice To Haves

  • Formal education in Audio Visual, Electronics, or related field
  • AVIXA CTS certification
  • Manufacturer or industry certifications (Crestron, QSC, Biamp, Extron)
  • Q‑SYS Level 2 Certification
  • Crestron Professional Installation or Programming Essentials
  • OSHA 30‑Hour Construction Certification
  • Ability to obtain government or system‑specific clearances

Responsibilities

  • Perform audiovisual system installations, decommissioning, upgrades, and redeployments based on project scope and directives
  • Support installation days including: Pre‑install site readiness checks and material verification, Rough‑in, trim‑out, and final device installation, System commissioning, validation testing, and client handoff support
  • Provide break‑fix and on‑demand service support for conference rooms, auditoriums, multipurpose spaces, video walls, and collaboration environments
  • Read and interpret system schematics, drawings, and architectural/construction blueprints
  • Install, terminate, solder, and crimp low‑voltage cabling using appropriate hand and power tools
  • Test point‑to‑point cabling, validate signal flow, and verify overall system functionality
  • Troubleshoot complex AV environments including: Microsoft Teams Rooms and other VC platforms, Logitech room systems and peripherals, QSC / Q‑SYS (including Reflect), Biamp Tesira and DANTE audio environments
  • Perform daily system checks, preventative maintenance, and functional testing to ensure room readiness
  • Upload, support, and troubleshoot control programs and firmware (AMX, Crestron, Q‑SYS – minor edits with programmer support as needed)
  • Track, manage, and secure tools, equipment, and materials on job sites; coordinate RMAs as required
  • Communicate daily job‑site status, risks, and progress to the Project Manager
  • Act as on‑site customer liaison; route change requests to the Project Manager for review and approval
  • Coordinate with other trades on active construction sites
  • Maintain accurate documentation, test results, and service notes
  • Provide basic end‑user training and system walk‑throughs when required
  • Travel between customer sites to support installations and service needs
  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support team and organizational objectives
