About The Position

VersaTech is seeking an experienced Lead AV Installation Technician with an active SECRET clearance to support federal and commercial clients across the Washington, DC Metro Area. In this role, you will lead field installation crews and perform hands-on integration work, including AV hardware installation, rack fabrication, cable termination, system commissioning, and end-user training, in secure government facilities and commercial environments. The role also includes occasional service calls, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting on installed systems. Candidates with demonstrated experience in systems such as Extron, Q-SYS, Crestron, Biamp, Poly, or Cisco who are ready to step into a field leadership role are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Active SECRET security clearance, with the ability to maintain it.
  • 5+ years of experience installing and supporting large-scale audio-visual systems, including at least 2 years in a lead or crew-lead role.
  • Experience working in classified environments and following security protocols.
  • Experience with AV systems such as Extron, Q-SYS, Biamp, and Cisco.
  • Experience with digital video/audio transmission and protocols, signal flow, audio-visual signal types, connector types, and terminations.
  • Experience loading and testing control system code and DSP programming.
  • Ability to read and interpret AV CAD drawings, schematics, blueprints, cabling pull schedules, and riser and line diagrams.
  • Ability to work independently for AV testing and troubleshooting, leveraging computer and networking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead installation crews, manage tasks against a schedule, and maintain quality standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for client engagement and customer service.
  • Active driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Ability to travel to DC Metro Area client sites and the corporate office, with occasional national travel (up to 25%).

Nice To Haves

  • AVIXA CTS or CTS-I certification.
  • Manufacturer certifications (e.g., Crestron, Q-SYS, Biamp, Extron).
  • Experience working with a government client or as a government contractor, including familiarity with DoD-specific AV requirements.
  • Experience with secure video conferencing systems (e.g., VTC over classified networks).
  • Networking certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as on-site lead for AV installation projects, directing and coordinating the work of installation technicians and subcontractors.
  • Perform and oversee field installation of AV hardware and systems as designed, including cable installation, cable termination, and device installation.
  • Configure, commission, and test AV systems, including video conferencing, audio/DSP, displays, and control systems.
  • Load and test control system code and DSP programming.
  • Interpret AV CAD drawings, cabling pull schedules, floor plans, ceiling plans, riser diagrams, and line diagrams, and update drawings with Red Lines.
  • Work with AV Engineers and Project Managers to review blueprints, AV input/output (IO), and project schedules, and to resolve field issues.
  • Perform site surveys and pre-installation walkthroughs.
  • Ensure installations meet security requirements and comply with applicable regulations and site security procedures in classified environments.
  • Enforce jobsite safety, quality, and workmanship standards.
  • Lead in-house rack fabrication, wiring, and assembly.
  • Perform Quality Assurance testing on fabricated and installed systems and generate supporting documentation.
  • Read and interpret electronic schematics and architectural blueprints.
  • Update inventory documentation and support VersaTech delivery logistics as needed.
  • Respond to occasional service calls to troubleshoot and resolve issues with AV equipment, video teleconferencing systems (e.g., Poly, Cisco), and networked devices.
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) on installed systems as scheduled.
  • Communicate with the internal VersaTech team and manufacturers/OEMs to resolve system faults.
  • Train and mentor junior technicians and new team members.
  • Provide end-user training and post-installation support to ensure systems are used as designed.
  • Maintain accurate as-built documentation, system configurations, service reports, and project records.
  • Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and installation standards.
  • Stay current on emerging AV technologies, products, and industry best practices.
