About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is seeking an AV/IT Systems Specialist to ensure the successful installation, maintenance, and operation of audio-visual (AV) solutions in classrooms, conference rooms, and other campus spaces. This role involves assessing user needs, determining hardware and software specifications, designing AV enabled spaces, developing timelines and prototypes, working with vendors, purchasing hardware and software systems, managing installations, assisting with systems programming, and providing excellent customer support. Responsibilities include managing the integration of technology in new construction and remodel projects for university learning spaces or AV enabled facilities. The specialist will consult with stakeholders to determine facilities programming and collaborate with the Planning and Construction department, architects, contractors, AV integrators, and IT stakeholders to ensure technology is appropriately integrated. The role also requires staying updated on the latest classroom technology developments and working closely with faculty to meet their pedagogical needs. A customer-focused approach is essential, emphasizing professional, timely, and effective interactions.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 2–4 years of professional experience in AV/IT systems, classroom technology, instructional technology, or related field.
  • AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) certification.
  • Proficient knowledge of AV/IT systems and designs including: AV control platforms (Crestron, Extron, Etc.), video distribution via IP protocols, lecture capture (Panopto), web-conferencing tools (Zoom).
  • Strong knowledge of AV systems and AV line drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of construction techniques and interpretation of construction drawings.
  • Knowledge of network protocols and configurations to improve collaboration between AV, IT, and facilities teams.
  • Experience working with an enterprise help support ticketing system.
  • Capability to handle direct communication with a high level of professionalism, both electronically and in person.
  • Communicate with customers as it relates to project fulfillment.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to a fast-paced environment that varies daily.
  • Ability to work with other teams to request support of or lend support; look for opportunities for improvements and unresolved challenges.
  • Ability to keep meticulous records of customer interactions, actions taken and issue resolution.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to competently perform job duties and responsibilities within established time frames/deadlines.
  • High organizational and time management skills are required to balance the offerings of design services, traffic communications, troubleshooting hardware issues, and manage new installations.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently on multiple assignments and to work collaboratively within a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Five or more years of professional experience, preferably in higher education, including the design, installation, maintenance, and operation of audio-visual solutions in classrooms, conference rooms, and technology-enabled learning spaces.
  • Experience managing AV projects associated with new construction and renovations.
  • Experience developing classroom technology standards and collaborating with architects, contractors, and AV integrators.
  • Experience with Jetbuilt preferred.
  • Experience with Talem3 preferred.
  • Experience using drawing tools such as AutoCAD and/or Visio preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with faculty to ensure new facilities are designed to meet their pedagogical needs.
