About The Position

The Student Union and Operations Division of Student Life at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an AV Equipment Service Technician. The primary purpose of this position is to execute the daily audio-visual technical support operations for all meetings and events held in the Mountainlair.

Requirements

  • Requires related training obtained through a post-high school program of up to eighteen (18) months plus two to three (2-3) years of directly related work experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of concurrent experience: AV Equipment usage, Sound reinforcement, Basic lighting design, Virtual Meeting / Video Conferencing, Computer software and info Technology, Customer Service
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute daily technical support operations, to include: Prepare equipment for specific meetings/events. Coordinate meetings/events planning details with supervisor/Mountainlair Reservations. Move equipment from storage location to meeting/event location. Setup equipment in location assigned. Meeting with meeting/event client to discuss last minute needs. Operate audio-visual equipment during meeting/event. Conduct a post-event review/evaluation with client. Tear down equipment and return to storage location. Clean and organize workspaces. Coordinate with Facilities and Catering in events setups, as necessary. Coordinate with Mountainlair Night Operations on equipment retrieval and storage. Complete a written post-meeting/event summary.
  • Manage and maintain the inventory of audio-visual equipment to be used by the Mountainlair Technical operations, to include microphones, portable sound systems, LCD projectors, web cameras, etc.
  • Demonstrate, training, supervise and instruct student technicians on equipment usage.
  • Perform basic repair and preventative maintenance to equipment.
  • Demonstrate, train and instruct student technicians in operation of permanent meeting room computers, A/V equipment and computer software.
  • Perform regular meeting room computer software updates.
  • Conduct regular security checks of equipment.
  • Research equipment upgrades and replacements.
  • Coordinate and execute equipment purchases.
