About The Position

This role is part of the Entry level Facility Operator Program (FOP) at Reworld, a leading sustainable materials management company. The program includes 12 to 16 weeks of classroom, online, and on-the-job training. Upon successful completion, participants will be prepared for an Auxiliary Operator position at Reworld Onondaga in Jamesville, NY, with potential opportunities for relocation within the Midwest region. The training will cover Waste to Energy processes, system layouts, component descriptions, system cross-functionality, and theoretical knowledge. Post-graduation, the role involves supporting plant operations and maintenance, performing routine rounds and logs, participating in asset operations and maintenance programs, and learning lean tools for problem-solving. By the end of the first year, the operator will contribute to operational improvements using continuous improvement methods and may advance to roles like assistant control room operator.

Requirements

  • Operate power hand tools and other specialized equipment.
  • Ability to work at heights and trained in proper fall prevention & protection equipment.
  • Ability to work with a full-faced respirator during extreme hot and cold temperatures.
  • Ability to work in confined space areas of the facility.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Must have the ability to work a rotating shift.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb.
  • Ability to lift/carry 50lbs.
  • Ability to work from heights and in confined spaces.
  • Qualify to wear a full-face respirator.
  • Consistently work in various weather conditions.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with high pressure boilers, electric generating equipment is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Gain foundational knowledge and skills on Waste to Energy processes, system layouts, component descriptions, system cross-functionality, and required theoretical knowledge.
  • Perform on the job training, including watching station tasks and obtaining hands-on experience in the field with operation and inspection of various power plant systems.
  • Support minimum plant operations and maintenance functions, testing and inspection requirements, and adherence to required safety standards.
  • Perform routine daily rounds and logs as part of the operator’s standard work.
  • Actively participate in annual/semiannual critical asset operations and maintenance programs.
  • Participate in controlled shutdown and startups of critical assets applying technical training.
  • Learn lean tools and methods of effective problem-solving (PSR) and participate in daily leadership to escalate concerns.
  • Contribute, develop, and support operational improvement using continuous improvement methods, lean principles, and problem-solving tools.
  • Help build a safer, more sustainable world by learning and implementing revolutionary technology and expertise to recover, recycle and reimagine waste.
  • Assist in the operation of a clean and safe work environment and observe good safety habits.
  • Provide unique viewpoints and experiences to drive innovation.
  • Assist with identifying and correcting abnormal operating conditions or emergency situations.
  • Collaborate with team members with empathy and care.
  • Escalate blockers, simplify operational efficiency, and make recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Accurately report equipment malfunctions or trends which may indicate possible equipment danger.
  • Identify critical trends that may indicate possible equipment danger and support leaders by accurately reporting equipment malfunctions.
  • Follow all safety rules.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and HazMat Procedures with respect to the storage and handling of materials in the area.
