This role is part of Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), supporting Blue Origin’s mission. The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design. The Autonomy Engineering Manager leads the Autonomy Engineering group within Enterprise Engineering Flight Systems, reporting directly to the Senior Director of Flight Systems. This role balances both leadership and technical responsibilities, ensuring Business Units receive expert support in simulation, aerodynamics, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), navigation, and systems engineering.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field
  • 7-10 years of experience in simulation, aerodynamics, CFD, navigation, or systems engineering
  • Demonstrated success leading technical teams in complex engineering environments
  • Working understanding of the complexities and interdependencies across multiple disciplines within flight systems
  • Practical experience in at least one of the core technical areas supported by the team
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Proven talent for building and developing high-performing technical teams
  • Strong project and resource management capabilities

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. or Ph.D. preferred in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field
  • Knowledge of aerospace systems and spaceflight operations preferred

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a high-performing team of industry experts through strategic recruiting, hiring, and retention
  • Provide daily guidance, leadership, and mentoring to team members
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and ensure appropriate professional development opportunities
  • Manage task assignments, workload balancing, and project allocation across the team
  • Collaborate with Business Units to understand requirements, define expectations, and establish deliverables
  • Develop multi-year resource planning aligned with strategic objectives
  • Track and report key performance metrics and schedule adherence
  • Ensure the team consistently meets or exceeds internal customer expectations
  • Partner with the Senior Director and other leaders to shape and execute the strategic vision for Flight Systems
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and process improvement
  • Ensure technical excellence across all supported disciplines
  • Provide hands-on engineering expertise in one or more specialized areas (simulation, aerodynamics, CFD, navigation, or systems engineering)
  • Apply technical knowledge to guide team solutions and approach
