The Automotive Worker performs routine maintenance, preventive maintenance services, repairs and modifications under the direct supervision of a Mechanic. This includes functions such as adjusting brakes, replacing/servicing batteries, replacing/rotating tires, replacing windshield wipers and similar minor parts; assists on major overhaul jobs by disassembling and cleaning parts, repairing components such as generators and water pumps, and replacing thermostats, electrical wiring and other items; replaces engine, transmission, and differential fluids; checks, cleans and replaces plugs, oil and air filters; may assist with basic structural repair and fabrication of small assemblies, electrical wiring, and the removal and installation of access panels, components and accessories; maintains tools and equipment, and cleans work areas. Essential Responsibilities: Assists mechanic in servicing, adjusting and replaces parts using common hand tools. Removes inspection plates and panels; cowling, engine covers, floor boards; and related items to provide access for inspection and repair. Replaces items when work is completed. Performs routine duties such as furnishing materials; tools and supplies to mechanic; lifting and holding materials in place during maintenance operation; cleaning interior and exterior parts and assemblies with solvents or other cleaning solutions. Fills fuel tanks and cells and oil reservoirs and lubricates using grease gun. Washes and cleans equipment as directed. May drive/transport equipment to be serviced and repaired. Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested
