About The Position

The Automotive Worker performs a variety of minor repairs and services to maintain motor vehicles. This role involves diagnosing trouble, determining the extent of repairs required, and applying knowledge to electrical, power transmissions, brakes, and other automotive systems. The worker will install ignition systems, align front wheels, change or recharge batteries, and replace transmissions and other parts using hand tools and repair manuals. Responsibilities also include lubricating moving parts, changing oil and transmission fluids, replacing brake linings and pads, windshield wipers, headlamps, taillights, belts, and hoses. The Automotive Worker will also test drive repaired vehicles. This position requires working from both verbal and written instructions, assessing work orders, and observing vehicles to determine malfunctions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two years’ experience repairing/maintaining vehicles
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English
  • Formal technical or vocational automotive mechanical training classes
  • Possess a valid state Driver’s license
  • US Citizen
  • Obtain and maintain the appropriate level of clearance
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Perform minor repairs and services to maintain motor vehicles.
  • Place and maintain decals on vehicles.
  • Check and replace batteries.
  • Rotate, repair, and replace tires.
  • Wash, polish, and clean interiors and exteriors of vehicles.
  • Drain, flush, and replace engine, transmission, and differential grease and oils.
  • Check, clean, calibrate, and replace spark plugs.
  • Clean and replace oil and air filters.
  • Adjust brakes, replace windshield wipers, and similar minor parts.
  • Assist on major overhaul jobs by disassembling and cleaning parts.
  • Repair components such as generators and water pumps.
  • Replace thermostats, points, electrical wiring, and other items.
  • Maintain tools and equipment.
  • Clean work areas.
  • Assist in overhauling major assemblies or automobiles, light trucks, and ATVs.
  • Diagnose trouble and determine the extent of repairs required.
  • Apply knowledge to electrical, power transmissions, brakes, and other automotive systems.
  • Install ignition systems.
