The Automotive Worker performs a variety of minor repairs and services to maintain motor vehicles. This role involves placing and maintaining decals on vehicles, checking and replacing batteries, rotating, repairing, and replacing tires, washing, polishing, and cleaning interiors and exteriors of vehicles, draining, flushing, and replacing engine, transmission, and differential grease and oils, checking, cleaning, calibrating, and replacing spark plugs, and cleaning and replacing oil and air filters. The worker will also adjust brakes, replace windshield wipers, and similar minor parts. Additionally, they will assist on major overhaul jobs by disassembling and cleaning parts, repairing components such as generators and water pumps, and replacing thermostats, points, electrical wiring, and other items. This role requires maintaining tools and equipment, and cleaning work areas. The position may involve assisting in overhauling major assemblies or automobiles, light trucks, and ATVs. Other duties include diagnosing trouble, determining the extent of repairs required, and potentially replacing or repairing brakes, carburetors, fuel systems, cooling systems, lighting, and ignitions systems. The Automotive Worker works from both verbal and written instructions, assesses work orders, observes and listens to vehicles in operation to determine malfunctions, and plans work procedures accordingly. They apply knowledge to electrical, power transmissions, brakes, and other automotive systems. Tasks include installing ignition systems, aligning front wheels, changing or recharging batteries, and replacing transmissions and other parts using hand tools and repair manuals. Lubricating moving parts, changing oil and transmission fluids, replacing brake linings and pads, windshield wipers, headlamps, taillights, belts, and hoses are also part of the responsibilities. The role concludes with test driving repaired vehicles.
