About The Position

The Automation Test Engineer will support a major public sector digital transformation programme, validating complete business processes across user interfaces, REST APIs, and integrated systems. The role contributes to testing throughout Agile delivery and ensures changes are thoroughly tested before release. It also focuses on ensuring connected applications work reliably across complete user journeys through a combination of test automation and functional testing.

This is an initially three-month contract, working remotely, outside IR35, at market rates of approximately £400 to £425 per day. Candidates must have or be willing to undergo basic security clearance before starting; the stated lead time is 5–7 days.

Requirements

• Strong test automation experience using Playwright, Cypress, and/or Python.
• Experience testing REST APIs, JSON/XML payloads, and system integrations.
• Familiarity with Postman, Bruno, REST Assured, and Swagger/OpenAPI.
• Experience using Jira and Xray for test management and defect tracking.
• Strong Agile testing skills, analytical ability, and effective communication with developers and Product Owners.
• Must have or be willing to undergo basic security clearance before starting the role.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain reusable automated UI, API, and integration tests within CI/CD pipelines.
• Perform functional, end-to-end, regression, and exploratory testing.
• Identify test scenarios, risks, and coverage requirements early in the delivery lifecycle.
• Manage defects, retesting, and requirements traceability using Jira and Xray.
• Produce clear test evidence, results, and outstanding risk assessments to support release decisions.
• Validate complete business processes across user interfaces, REST APIs, and integrated systems.
