About The Position

The Automation Technical Team Lead position at Kimball Electronics is an onsite leadership role reporting to the Engineering Manager. Kimball Electronics is a contract medical device manufacturer focused on solving problems and partnering with customers. This role is critical for overseeing the technical performance and reliability of Automation Technicians across multiple shifts. The mission is to provide hands-on technical leadership, ensuring automation strategies align with production needs, quality requirements, and business objectives within a regulated manufacturing environment. The position plays a key role in maximizing equipment uptime, supporting new equipment builds, and developing a strong, responsive automation team capable of supporting complex manufacturing operations. Requirements

5+ years of engineering experience in manufacturing or regulated environment
Demonstrated experience leading projects, mentoring engineers, or acting in a Senior technical role
Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, Power Point)
Strong problem solving, communication and customer-facing skills
Ability to make data driven recommendations and decisions
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related years of experience

Responsibilities

Oversee the technical performance and reliability of the Automation Technicians on multiple shifts.
Provide hands-on technical leadership.
Ensure automation strategies align with production needs, quality requirements, and business objectives within a regulated manufacturing environment.
Maximize equipment uptime.
Support new equipment builds.
Develop a strong, responsive automation team capable of supporting complex manufacturing operations.
Ensure staffing levels and technical expertise align with a specific engineering project workload and priorities, including resource prioritization and escalation when constraints impact delivery.
Coach, mentor, and develop automation technicians by creating targeted training plans, supporting skill growth in engineering and monitoring progress.
Analyze production and inspection performance and develop corrective action plans to increase yield and reduce downtime.
Prioritize corrective, preventative, and breakdown maintenance to maximize equipment uptime.
Support qualification and validation activities for new and existing automated equipment (IQ/OQ/PQ).
Assist with generation and maintenance of automation-related process documentation.
Learn about Kimball Vision and Guiding Principles (0-3 months).
Learn the Kimball systems to understand and be able to communicate to all levels of the organization (0-3 months).
Assist in developing and executing automation strategies aligned with business and production needs (0-3 months).
Learn Kimball Quality System and SOP requirements (0-3 months).
Provide coaching, mentorship and training to our automation technicians (3-6 months).
Become Familiar with Customers, Products, Processes, and Management (3-6 months).
Identify opportunities to improve automation reliability, standardization, and scalability (3-6 months).
Participate in special projects and cross-functional initiatives as needed (3-6 months).
Implement changes or enhancements (6-12 months+).
Expand teamwork; maximize Kimball as the employer of choice (6-12 months+).
Execute on the training and development of the technicians (6-12 months+).
