This position is responsible for completing work assignments and priorities by using policies, data, and resources; collaborating with managers, coworkers, customers, and other business partners; identifying priorities, deadlines, and expectations; carrying out tasks; communicating progress and information; determining and recommending ways to address improvement opportunities; and adapting to and learning from change, difficulties, and feedback. The role involves programming, modifying, commissioning, and troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and automated control systems supporting manufacturing operations. It also includes diagnosing complex controls and automation issues using PLC logic, electrical schematics, system diagnostics, and field-level troubleshooting. The supervisor supports the development, modification, and optimization of PLC programs, Human Machine Interface (HMI) applications, control sequences, alarms, interlocks, and automated equipment. They work with various automation technologies including robotics, sensors, instrumentation, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), industrial communications, fiber optic sensors, pneumatic/hydraulic controls, touch panels, and other industrial control equipment, utilizing one-line and electrical schematic designs, electrical equipment controls, instrumentation, and system configurations. Experience with industrial control platforms such as Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation, FactoryTalk, Siemens, B&R, and related PLC/HMI systems is expected. The role provides on-call remote and onsite technical support for automation equipment and performs root-cause troubleshooting of PLC, controls, electrical, instrumentation, network, and automation-related equipment failures to restore production and prevent recurrence. The supervisor partners with maintenance, operations, engineering, and other teams to improve equipment reliability and manufacturing performance, and trains and develops associates on the operation, troubleshooting, and repair of automation equipment and control systems, providing technical guidance and coaching. They manage the daily operations of automation systems by performing and coordinating routine maintenance of instruments and controls, and upgrade and replace components and control systems. Continuous monitoring of operations and processes, identification of operational malfunctions, and correction of malfunctions are key. The role requires completing work orders, records, logs, program documentation, and other written or computer-based documents. Support for plant operation, quality, reliability, and continuous improvement programs (e.g., Break Down Analysis and Break Down Deployments) is also required. The supervisor executes process improvement and automation projects by identifying customer and operational needs, performance standards, measuring progress, and adjusting performance. They identify opportunities to improve equipment performance through PLC programming, controls optimization, automation upgrades, and elimination of recurring equipment failures, and develop contingency plans while demonstrating adaptability and continuous learning.
