About The Position

The fab2 team is responsible for designing and building all the hardware and software necessary for chip manufacturing, including the fabs, tools, and components themselves. They are seeking exceptional, hands-on individuals who can push the boundaries of what's possible. fab2 was founded by Sam Zeloof and Jim Keller. Sam is known for his work in chip fabrication at home, and Jim has a 40-year history of leadership in the semiconductor industry. This role is for an Automation Software Engineering Intern for the summer term, with a preferred commitment of 4 to 8 months, starting in May or June. The intern will join an integrated engineering team focused on building semiconductor fabrication equipment, offering exposure to complex engineering challenges. The company's size allows interns to take on significant ownership and critical tasks, with considerable autonomy on interdisciplinary projects. The intern will contribute to initiatives that enhance and accelerate the semiconductor fabrication process and improve robot efficiency. A strong candidate will be familiar with motor controllers, path planning, and trajectory control. fab2 emphasizes rapid development and testing, aiming for completion in days or weeks rather than months. A portfolio, such as a GitHub profile, is required to demonstrate software engineering excellence and curiosity.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar field
  • Proficiency in Python/C/C++
  • Demonstrated experience in robotics software
  • A portfolio (e.g., GitHub) showcasing software engineering excellence and curiosity is required.

  • Familiarity with feedback control systems
  • Experience developing computer vision applications
  • Proficiency in Rust

Responsibilities

  • Develop real-time applications in Linux and Rust for controlling semiconductor fabrication equipment
