About The Position

Responsible for performing technical duties related to the assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of all automated valve assemblies, both in-house and at customer sites. This role involves installing and maintaining products on customer sites, training customers on supplied equipment, conducting service calls and preventive maintenance in the field, scheduling service appointments, and troubleshooting all MRC Global-supplied equipment. The technician will also perform field measurements, inspect materials, document non-conforming materials and corrective actions, and maintain compliance documentation. Assembly and testing of mechanical, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic automated assemblies will be performed both in the shop and in the field. The role requires pre-installation inspections, adherence to ISO procedures, serving as a technical/quality point of contact for sales representatives, reporting customer concerns, coordinating communication between sales and warehouse, and establishing effective working relationships with manufacturers and customers. Availability as needed for the Automation Shop Manager and performance of other assigned duties and projects are also part of the role. Safety is paramount, requiring the technician to take reasonable care for their own and others' health and report any workplace hazards or incidents immediately.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or a GED (General Education Degree) or equivalent combination of education and work experience that provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
  • One year of mechanical experience.
  • Must have a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable record at all times.
  • Two years of related industry experience, either with MRC Global or with a similar work environment.
  • Strong knowledge of, or ability to learn, products and processes.
  • Must have the ability to acquire all necessary certifications for working at customer sites.
  • Advanced mechanical knowledge of gearing, bearings, and moving assemblies.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical and pneumatic type equipment usage (e.g., pneumatic and electric tools, fixtures, and test equipment).
  • Advanced knowledge of electricity and electrical components.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use basic hand and power tools.
  • Ability to learn and operate material handling equipment.
  • Ability to establish working rapport with local management, technical inside and outside sales representatives, warehouse associates, and other branch personnel using proper phone etiquette and other effective interpersonal skills.
  • Typing and computer skills, including MS Office (Outlook).
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn about MRC Global warehouse business processes and software.
  • Knowledge of operating standard office equipment.
  • Ability to learn and be proficient in working with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic valve automation assemblies.
  • Ability to travel frequently within and outside the branch service area (U.S. and abroad), with frequent overnight and extended stays.
  • Must have the ability to provide documentation verifying legal work status.
  • Ability to read and speak the English language proficiently in order to communicate with others, understand and interpret safety instructions, and to respond to inquiries.
  • Ability to understand and comply with MRC Global guidelines and expectations, including Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain products on customer sites.
  • Train customers on the supplied equipment.
  • Conduct service calls and preventive maintenance in the field.
  • Schedule service appointments with customers.
  • Troubleshoot all MRC Global-supplied equipment.
  • Perform field measurements on all valves.
  • Inspect all fabricated and purchased materials to ensure that customer specifications and industry codes and standards are met.
  • Document non-conforming material and subsequent required corrective action.
  • Document and maintain files as to permit certification of compliance with product specification.
  • Assemble and test mechanical, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic automated assemblies both in the shop and in the field.
  • Perform assembly on various types of electric or pneumatic assemblies, both in the shop and in the field.
  • Perform pre-installation inspections to assist the project team.
  • Follow all ISO procedures.
  • Serve as a point of contact for technical/quality issues for local sales representatives.
  • Report customer concerns and technical issues to local sales representatives.
  • Coordinate communication between the sales office and the warehouse to ensure efficient and timely deliveries to customers.
  • Establish a friendly and effective working relationship with manufacturers and internal and external customers using written correspondence, proper phone etiquette, and other effective interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain 24-hour availability as needed in order to lend assistance to the Automation Shop Manager.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Take reasonable care for the safety and health of yourself and others, and report workplace hazards, injuries, or illnesses immediately.
