About The Position

SMX is seeking an Automation Engineer, Mid to design, develop, and implement automation and orchestration solutions that enhance the efficiency, scalability, and resilience of the organization’s cybersecurity and network infrastructure. By creating automated workflows and scripts, the engineer utilizes coding languages such as PowerShell, Ansible, and Python to integrate cybersecurity tools, streamline processes, and minimize manual intervention. Through collaboration with cross-functional teams, the Automation Engineer identifies automation opportunities, ensures seamless integration with existing systems, and enhances the organization's cybersecurity posture. This is a full-time on site position in Ft. Shafter, HI.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in automation engineering, scripting, or related roles.
  • Active Top Secret (TS) security clearance with eligibility for SCI and NATO read-on before commencing work.
  • Proficiency in programming languages like PowerShell, Ansible, and Python.
  • Experience with automation and orchestration platforms such as Jenkins, Terraform, or comparable tools.
  • Familiarity with network infrastructure and cybersecurity systems, such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and SIEM platforms.
  • Thorough understanding of system integration principles, APIs, and configuration management tools.
  • Expertise in automation and orchestration tools, programming languages, and system integration methods.
  • The ability to identify process inefficiencies and create innovative solutions that improve system performance and lessen manual intervention.
  • Skilled in collaborating with teams and engaging stakeholders to deliver automation solutions that align with organizational goals.
  • Skilled in documenting workflows, writing technical reports, and presenting automation strategies to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Adept at learning new technologies and adapting to a dynamic cybersecurity and IT environment.
  • Diligent in testing and validating automation solutions to ensure their reliability, scalability, and security.
  • A strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, tools, and processes enables the effective development of automation solutions to address security challenges.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • Certifications such as Security+, Certified Automation Professional (CAP), Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, or equivalent certifications.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, including the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO 27001, or the CIS Controls.
  • Experience within a Department of Defense (DoD) or Intelligence Community (IC) setting.

Responsibilities

  • Create and deploy automation solutions to streamline cybersecurity processes and improve system efficiency.
  • Create and sustain custom scripts and workflows utilizing PowerShell, Ansible, Python, or comparable technologies.
  • Integrate cybersecurity tools, systems, and processes with the existing infrastructure to ensure seamless operations.
  • Identify manual processes in cybersecurity and IT operations, then create scalable automation solutions to remove inefficiencies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their requirements, set automation goals, and confirm solutions prior to deployment.
  • Assess the effectiveness of automated solutions and modify workflows to improve performance.
  • Encourage automating incident response, vulnerability management, and compliance monitoring tasks.
  • Develop workflows that improve system resilience, guarantee high availability, and minimize downtime.
  • Support the maintenance of a secure environment by automating routine cybersecurity tasks, including log analysis, patch management, and system configuration.
  • Collaborate closely with cybersecurity, network, and infrastructure teams to ensure automation efforts align with organizational goals.
  • Document all automation solutions, such as workflows, scripts, and processes, to ensure they are maintainable and scalable.
  • Offer training and support to team members on utilizing and overseeing automation tools.
  • Perform thorough testing of automated workflows to guarantee reliability and stability prior to deployment.
  • Troubleshoot and address issues with automation scripts and orchestration tools to ensure system integrity.
  • Conduct post-deployment reviews to assess the effectiveness of automation solutions and identify any gaps.
