About The Position

Flex is seeking an Automation/Controls Engineering Co-Op for its Libertyville, IL site for the Spring 2027 semester. The co-op student will support PLC-based automation systems for molding, coiling, and buffer integration. This role involves collaborating with Engineers and cross-functional teams, assisting with PLC and HMI troubleshooting, supporting FAT/SAT preparation and execution, and contributing to automation documentation and architecture reviews. The student will also validate buffer timing logic and re-test systems, and attend team meetings to support project work.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled BS student pursuing degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering major
  • Basic PLC knowledge
  • Understanding of industrial sensors, actuators, and HMIs
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and understand control panels
  • Basic knowledge of automation architecture and timing/sequence logic
  • Understanding of FAT/SAT testing and system validation concepts
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work 40 hours/week (in person) during the Spring 2027 co-op assignment
  • Currently enrolled in 4-year accredited university
  • 3.0 GPA

  • Previous manufacturing floor internship/co-op experience a plus!
