Automation Continuous Improvement Intern
About The Position
Under the direction of the Automation CI Supervisor, the Automation Continuous Improvement Engineering Intern supports manufacturing automation, robotics, process improvement, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role provides hands-on experience working with engineering professionals to develop technical skills in automation systems, lean manufacturing principles, data analysis, and project execution. The intern assists with automation projects, equipment evaluations, documentation, process optimization activities, and continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations, supporting the organization's automation and operational excellence objectives. The intern also helps maintain HellermannTyton's Quality and EHS certifications by supporting corporate policies, procedures, work instructions, and required documentation. The position involves collaboration with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering teams, and may include other duties or special projects assigned by the Automation Engineering team.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
- High school diploma or equivalency.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong mechanical and technical aptitude.
- Interest in automation, robotics, and manufacturing systems.
- Analytical problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
- Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement concepts.
- Organization and attention to detail.
- Initiative and willingness to take ownership of assigned tasks.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 30 lbs.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule during semesters and summer breaks.

- Experience with CAD software.
Responsibilities
- Assist engineers with automation and robotics projects.
- Support process improvement and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with developing standard work instructions and documentation.
- Help create and maintain engineering drawings, project documentation, and technical records.
- Support safety, quality, and productivity improvement projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering.
- Maintain housekeeping and 5S standards in assigned areas.
- Participate in engineering and operational meetings as required.
- Support special projects assigned by the Automation Engineering team.
- Assist with training documentation and implementation activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
