About The Position

The Automation and Process Controls Instructor delivers the StrataTech pre-developed program curriculum to current technicians looking to upskill their knowledge. This is an advanced technical training role covering industrial automation, controls systems, PLC programming, fluid power, and power transmission. Students are employed maintenance technicians sent by skilled trades partners to build skills directly applicable to their daily operations. The Automation and Process Controls Instructor is technically credible, instructionally disciplined, and professional enough to represent StrataTech in a client-facing environment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED minimum with related field experience.
  • Ability to work individually and within a group
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • 5 or more years of hands-on field experience in the assigned technical discipline within the past 10 years
  • Proficiency with basic digital tools including documentation platforms and learning management systems
  • Hands-on experience with PLC systems — Allen-Bradley MicroLogix or ControlLogix strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of VFD systems, motor controls, and industrial sensor wiring
  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems in an industrial or DC maintenance environment
  • NFPA 70E and OSHA 10 certification

Responsibilities

  • Deliver assigned program curriculum in classroom and lab settings with technical accuracy and instructional clarity
  • Follow the curriculum as designed. Content is not substituted or modified without approval from the Senior Director or B2B Curriculum Manager
  • Adapt delivery style to meet the needs of adult learners across varying levels of prior experience without compromising technical content or pacing
  • Prepare for each session in advance. Students and client personnel notice the difference between an instructor who is ready and one who is not
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and student progress documentation throughout each cohort
  • Identify students who are struggling and intervene early.
  • Set up and manage the lab environment for each session; equipment operational, materials staged, space organized before students arrive
  • Enforce all safety protocols without exception. PPE, OSHA compliance, and lab conduct standards are non-negotiable
  • Reset the lab at the conclusion of each cohort to full operational condition
  • Maintain the lab to a standard that reflects professional pride, not minimum compliance
  • Hold students to the standard the program requires. An employed technician leaving this program must be prepared to pass a Multi-skilled Assessment Test and/or Ramsey Exam.
  • Create a learning environment that is structured, respectful, and demanding. Adult learners with field experience respond to instructors who know their material and expect effort
  • Manage classroom and lab conduct consistently. Address disruption or disengagement directly and professionally
  • Provide students with clear, actionable feedback throughout the program, not only at formal evaluation points
  • Conduct yourself as a representative of StrataTech in every interaction
  • Communicate with client personnel professionally and within the scope of your role. Questions or concerns that exceed that scope are escalated to the Senior Director within the same business day
  • Complete all reporting, documentation, and administrative requirements on time
  • Communicate scheduling needs, equipment issues, or student concerns to the Senior Director proactively
  • Deliver PLC programming and troubleshooting labs using Learning Lab curriculum. Students must complete the program able to read ladder logic, identify faults, and perform basic physical connections
  • Instruct on VFD installation, parameter setting, and fault diagnosis.
  • Deliver sensor identification, wiring, and IO Link integration labs. Students will work with photoelectric, proximity, ultrasonic, and safety sensors in multiple configurations
  • Deliver hydraulic and pneumatic system labs with emphasis on system understanding, PM procedures, and fault isolation. Depth of hydraulics instruction is calibrated to client operations
  • Cover conveyor system maintenance including belt tensioning, alignment, drive inspection, and controls troubleshooting
  • Instruct on power transmission including shaft alignment, bearing inspection and replacement, gear drive PM, and belt and chain drive maintenance
  • Deliver PLC-integrated conveyor system and motion control troubleshooting in real-world application scenarios
  • Deliver fluid power labs with hydraulic and pneumatic circuit construction, PM procedures, and fault isolation
